Severely handle cases of assaulting medical staff while performing CPR to save a patient

While doctors and nurses at Thanh Ba District Medical Center, Phu Tho were trying to perform CPR on a child in anaphylactic shock, family members were screaming, using insulting words, obstructing the doctors from performing their duties, and even assaulting the male nurse. The Ministry of Health requested the Phu Tho Provincial Department of Health to coordinate in investigating and clarifying and handling the case strictly.

On April 27, a clip appeared on social media of doctors and nurses from Thanh Ba District Medical Center (Phu Tho) treating a 12-year-old patient who went into anaphylactic shock after being injected with antibiotics. While the doctors were trying to perform CPR, the family members rushed into the emergency room, rolling around and crying, using insulting, offensive, and swearing words, causing difficulties and obstructing the doctors and nurses. A man even kicked the male nurse in the stomach when he went to get the car and equipment to treat the patient.

According to Dr. Vi Quoc Huong, Deputy Director of Thanh Ba District Medical Center, Phu Tho Province, the male nurse who was kicked in the stomach by a patient's family member was taken for an ultrasound, X-ray, and examination. Currently, the male nurse's health is stable and he is performing his professional work normally.

Doctors are performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation to save the child.

The boy who had a traffic accident was taken to Thanh Ba District Medical Center with a headache, dizziness, nausea, and bruises and bleeding on his forehead, limbs.

Brain CT scan showed that the child had a cerebral hemorrhage, epidural hematoma, epidural emphysema in the right frontal lobe... The patient was prescribed painkillers, tetanus antitoxin injection, and antibiotics.

While the nurse was injecting intravenous antibiotics, the boy showed signs of anaphylactic shock, difficulty breathing, rapid pulse, low blood pressure and fell into a state of circulatory arrest.

Upon detecting a patient with symptoms of anaphylactic shock, the Center's medical staff fully performed the cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedure for anaphylactic shock and alerted the entire hospital for emergency assistance.

According to Dr. Huong, despite being constantly hindered and made difficult by family members, with responsibility, expertise and medical ethics, doctors still focus on emergency care, do not abandon patients, and do not argue with family members.

After about 3 minutes, the boy's heart started beating again. 5 minutes later, the patient was awake, responsive, and had stable blood pressure. After 20 minutes, the patient was alert, breathing oxygen through glasses, and able to communicate normally.

The hospital has sent documents to the police for further investigation.

Regarding the above incident, on April 28, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management requested the Director of the Phu Tho Department of Health to proactively coordinate with local law enforcement agencies to investigate and clarify the case and strictly handle it according to the provisions of law.

The hospital strengthens security and order at medical examination and treatment facilities, focusing on solutions to prevent and minimize cases of insecurity and disorder, including establishing a monitoring and warning system for risks of insecurity and disorder.

The hospital promptly cares about and encourages the health and spirit of patients and medical staff affected by the above incident.
