Value-added pangasius exports to the US reach nearly 3 million USD

According to Vietnam Customs, the cumulative export of pangasius to the US in the first 8 months of this year reached 226 million USD, up 23% over the same period last year, accounting for 19% of the total value of pangasius exports from Vietnam to markets. In August 2024 alone, the export turnover reached more than 35 million USD, up 40% over August 2024.

As of the end of August 2024, frozen pangasius fillets were still the main export product, accounting for 96% of total pangasius exports to the US market. The US contributed 21% of total frozen pangasius fillet exports to markets in the first 8 months of this year.

In August 2024, the export value of this product to the US reached 32 million USD, an increase of 31% over the same period. In the first 8 months of 2024, the total export value of pangasius fillets to the US reached more than 217 million USD, an increase of 20% over the same period last year.

The top enterprises participating in exporting frozen pangasius fillets to the US include: Vinh Hoan accounting for 47%, Bien Dong Seafood accounting for 24%, Van Duc Tien Giang accounting for 15%, Can Tho Seafood accounting for 6% and Nam Viet accounting for 4%.

In addition to the main product, the first 8 months of 2024 witnessed record growth in exports of value-added pangasius products to the US. August 2024 was the month with the highest export value of value-added pangasius to the US, with nearly 3 million USD, 15 times higher than August 2023, and nearly double that of the previous month.

Breaded pangasius fillet product HS code 16041990 is very popular with consumers in the US because it is easy to process but still retains its delicious flavor. Exports of this product to the US in the first 8 months of this year reached nearly 6 million USD, accounting for 2.5% of the total export of pangasius from Vietnam to the US. Van Duc Tien Giang is the enterprise that exports the most breaded pangasius fillets to the US, contributing up to 81% of the total export of this product to the US. It is followed by NTSF accounting for 8%, Bien Dong Seafood accounting for 7%, Vinh Hoan accounting for 4% and SKYEX accounting for 0.0004%.

Vietnam has more than 67 enterprises participating in exporting pangasius to the US, of which the top 5 enterprises exporting the most to the US include: Vinh Hoan Joint Stock Company, Bien Dong Seafood Company Limited, Van Duc Tien Giang Food Processing Import-Export Company Limited, Can Tho Seafood Import-Export Company, Nam Viet Joint Stock Company.
