Although the export value of wood and wood products achieved good results in the first two months of 2025, this industry will still face many difficulties in the coming period, as major export markets increasingly demand strict control over the origin of wood, specifically: ensuring legality, preventing deforestation, green production, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and increasing the price of imported raw wood due to limited supply.
Furthermore, intense competition from other major supplier countries, including China, Malaysia, and Indonesia, which are also large timber exporters with technological and cost advantages, is a significant challenge. Therefore, for the sustainable development of the timber industry, in addition to meeting regulations and standards on origin and environmental standards, Vietnamese businesses need to invest in processing technology and improve product quality to maintain their competitive advantage and expand exports to new markets.
