Businesses improve quality, expand international markets

Fruit and vegetable exporting enterprises maintain positive growth momentum thanks to improving product quality, complying with strict import standards and expanding markets to the US, Australia, Japan, etc. Grapefruit officially entering Australia continues the success from the US, strengthening the production and consumption chain.

According to a representative of Chanh Thu Fruit Import-Export Company Limited, in 2025, the company recorded a positive export situation. However, meeting increasingly strict import standards and regulations posed many challenges. Thanks to quickly catching up with international market requirements, the company has improved product quality, limited risks and enhanced the reputation of export goods.

“Exports faced difficulties at the beginning of the year, but from mid-year onwards, the market improved, especially during the Lunar New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival. High durian prices come with risks, so controlling pesticide residues and packaging standards is very important,” said Chanh Thu.

Fruit and vegetable exports in October 2025 are estimated to reach 961 million USD.

According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the export value of fruits and vegetables in October 2025 is estimated at 961 million USD, bringing the total export value in the first 10 months of the year to 7.09 billion USD, up 15.1% over the same period in 2024. China accounts for the largest proportion at 62.9%, followed by the US (6.6%) and South Korea (3.9%). Malaysia recorded the strongest increase (70.2%), while exports to Thailand decreased the most (55.6%).

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that enterprises have increased the application of high technology, complied with regulations on traceability, growing area codes and packaging houses, and met food safety standards. Thanks to that, Vietnamese fruit and vegetable products are exported to many countries, especially durian, dragon fruit, mango, jackfruit, coconut, etc.

Durian is expected to be worth US$1.94 billion in the third quarter of 2025, up 30.3% year-on-year.

China spent 20.3 billion USD importing fruits and vegetables in the first 9 months of the year, of which Vietnam accounted for 20%, equivalent to 4 billion USD, ranking second only to Thailand. By the end of September, Vietnam exported nearly 620,000 tons of durian with a turnover of 2.3 billion USD. Vietnamese bananas surpassed the Philippines in volume (568,000 tons compared to 416,000 tons), thanks to competitive prices.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, General Director of Vina T&T, emphasized that Vietnam has successfully exported many types of fruit to demanding markets such as the US, Australia, Japan, Korea, Canada, and has overcome China's strict technical barriers. The rate of negative feedback is very low and has decreased over the years, proving that Vietnam's agriculture is developing sustainably.

With grapefruit officially entering Australia, it is forecasted that by the end of 2025, the total export value of fruits and vegetables in the industry will exceed 8 billion USD. The business's target for 2026 is to grow by 10% -12%, while expanding many types of fruits to the international market. The Vietnamese fruit and vegetable industry takes advantage of the opportunity to expand the market, improve product quality and develop the chain from production to consumption, and is fully capable of reaching the export milestone of 8.5 billion USD in 2025, consolidating its sustainable position on the global agricultural map.
