5 highest voted profiles in the first week of the Science Initiative qualifying round

124 projects participating in the 2024 Science Initiative contest organized by VnExpress are in the voting race, of which 5 entries received outstanding attention.

As of April 12, the top 5 solutions/products with the most votes were close together after a week of competition in the qualifying round.

1. Multi-purpose building materials from industrial and agricultural waste

The project with the highest number of votes in the first week with 1,035 votes belongs to author Cao Duc Tam ( Hanoi ). The product uses agricultural waste (bagasse, straw...) and industrial waste (Gypsum waste in the fertilizer production process) with 2-component PU plastic and some other additives to create a new type of environmentally friendly building material, low cost and good physical properties. The material has fireproof, soundproof, high bending strength properties, can be used to manufacture panels, walls, ceilings, and super light imitation stone panels.

The product is highly diverse when combined with a number of other additives to create stone-patterned gypsum panels, fire-resistant gypsum used in karaoke bars, making factory walls to prevent noise... By-products in the process of processing bagasse and straw can be used as fertilizer for crops. In the process of processing agricultural waste using biotechnology, fertilizer by-products will be sold to offset production costs, thereby reducing product prices.

2. Rescue system in case of fire in high-rise buildings

The fire escape and rescue system in high-rise buildings made by a group of students from class 11B6, Son Duong High School (Tuyen Quang) received more than 1013 votes. With the goal of supporting evacuation and rescue capabilities, the product is designed with an automatic anti-theft cage barrier that provides a safe escape route. Designed like an elevator, made of fireproof and high temperature resistant materials such as HT800 canvas, AMIANG panels, the system can withstand large loads and be used by many people at the same time. The product has an integrated control system inside and uses its own power source, making it easy to use and safe. The outstanding features of the rescue system include identifying and monitoring dangerous areas, maintaining electrical systems and equipment, and automatic fire alarm and extinguishing.

3. POCY

POCY is an application to block spam messages and scam calls developed by a professional technical member with more than 8 years of experience of CYNO, receiving 860 votes. The application uses modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) to detect and block calls, spam messages, protecting users from fraud, spam and cyber attacks. Currently, the application has attracted domestic and international investors.

4. Mini garbage collector

In the technology field, the BBlab team created a mini garbage collection boat that can collect waste on the water surface such as water bottles and plastic bags at a low production cost. The product received 857 votes.

The garbage cleaning robot helps replace human labor, no need to row a boat to collect or come into direct contact with waste. The system uses solar energy and is automatically controlled, specially designed with 2 motors on both sides of the buoy to increase garbage suction efficiency. The product is made of 80% recycled materials, can move flexibly, suitable for many river and lake areas.

5. Smart helmets for motorbikes and electric vehicles

The product "Smart helmet for motorbikes and electric vehicles" is an initiative of the authors to bring safety to motorbike and electric vehicle drivers when participating in traffic in Vietnam, receiving 797 votes. The group of students found a new technical solution to support helmet improvement and locate helmets when lost. The group expects the product to be convenient, ensure safety, and help people be more aware when participating in traffic.

The 2024 Creative Science Contest (CSC) is currently in its qualifying round (from 1pm on April 1 to 11:59pm on April 21). In this round, VnExpress readers can vote for their favorite products/solutions. The entries with the highest votes and the judges' votes will advance to the final round. The contest organizers said that this year, the number of applications is spread across all fields, including 91 products and 33 solutions with relevant content, high applicability, and diversity.

When voting for the contest entries, readers will have the opportunity to receive attractive gifts including a Pebble 2 keyboard and mouse combo worth VND 1,199 million and a Pebble M350S mouse worth VND 699,000. After each vote for the Science Initiative on the program page, readers will receive a lucky number via registered email. The Organizing Committee will draw based on the lucky number provided to readers. The winners will receive a notification email from the Organizing Committee.
