In the digital age, smartphones have become an indispensable item for everyone. In Vietnam, the rate of smartphone users has exceeded 84% of the population. However, taking full advantage of the computing capabilities of this device is still quite limited. Most users still have to invest in physical computing devices, which is costly in both finance and time.
In order to take advantage of that potential, the research team of the Military Technical Academy has successfully researched and developed CalC - an intelligent calculation application that synthesizes the features of a pocket calculator and a mini calculator on a computer thanks to the integration of AI technology applications, allowing users to perform complex calculations right on their mobile phones.
After more than two years of development, CalC has become a comprehensive computing platform that can replace many specialized tools that only appear on desktop computers. The product is considered a technological solution for optimal calculation.
If in the past, users had to rely on heavy software such as Matlab, Maple, Mathcad or expensive scientific calculators, now with just a smartphone, they can perform almost any similar calculation through CalC.
The application supports from basic to advanced calculations such as trigonometry, logarithms, derivatives, integrals, Laplace transforms..., and can handle extremely large or small values with high accuracy.
Notably, CalC integrates the Python programming environment - allowing users to write and run code directly on the phone, creating a distinct advantage over conventional computer applications.
The CalC Pro version continues to expand with advanced features such as 2D/3D graphing, geometry support, and AI to help solve problems and look up information. The user-friendly interface, with syntax highlighting, makes it easier to observe and reduces errors.
Mr. Trinh Manh Tuyen - lecturer of Military Technical Academy, Head of the research team said, "CalC is not only a technological product but also a testament to creativity and the ability to master modern technology. We want to affirm that Vietnam is completely capable of creating software of international stature."
The research team representative also said that during the implementation process, they faced many challenges. Among them, the biggest difficulty was processing mathematical expressions that users entered, requiring the application to understand the correct syntax and calculate accurately even with complex calculations and many different representations.
Integrating a programming environment into a mobile application is also a difficult problem, as the team must optimize the compiler to operate lightly, quickly and stably on mobile devices...
Currently, the software is being provided for free on 2 operating systems Android and iOS. The application is receiving many positive responses from domestic and foreign users with thousands of downloads in over 40 countries.
The goal of the project is not only to commercialize the product, but also to contribute to the scientific- educational community, helping students have access to modern computing tools without having to pay any fees.
In addition, the Pro version with extended features will help the team have financial resources to maintain, upgrade the system and develop new application modules.
Dr. Nguyen Van Tinh, lecturer of the Faculty of Technology Engineering, International School (Hanoi National University) said: CalC is a smart application, full of features and supports many utilities for users, especially for students, teachers and researchers. The birth of CalC shows the great potential of young intellectuals in the field of information technology.
However, to bring the product to the market widely still has many challenges. Because the brand recognition is still low, the product has not been widely promoted to the right users.
This software has been copyrighted at the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology) and in the coming time, the research team will develop additional input data to improve the application, serving users more effectively.
