Seeing the elderly woman's hands and feet trembling, unable to muster the strength to push her bicycle across the shaky pontoon bridge, the soldier from the 249th Engineering Brigade (Engineering Corps) quickly came to her aid. He carefully put his arm around her shoulder to support her, patiently guiding her slowly across the bridge, his demeanor as caring as if she were his own grandmother. After helping her cross the bridge, he and another soldier helped her push her bicycle up the steep slope to reach the main road.

Nguyen Xuan Tu (27 years old, living in Tu Xa commune, Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province), who captured this meaningful moment and posted it on TikTok, said: “On the afternoon of September 30th, while traveling on Phong Chau pontoon bridge, I happened to see a soldier helping an elderly woman and pushing her bicycle across the bridge, so I took out my phone to record it. I was very surprised that the video posted on TikTok received so much love and positive feedback.”

On social media, the young soldier's actions were considered a beautiful image of the close bond between the military and the people, and of the qualities of a soldier of Uncle Ho's army always serving the people: "Speaking of soldiers, they are always outstanding. I was a soldier for 3 years and participated in two flood relief efforts, so I understand very well"; "The image of the soldier and the elderly woman is so beautiful, thank you to the young soldiers."

“When I saw this image, I thought that when my son is old enough to enlist, I'll let him do his military service first and then go to university later”; “Seeing this image makes me even more deeply that soldiers are sons of the people, come from the people, and selflessly serve the people; so many touching images from Typhoon Yagi and the subsequent floods and landslides are like that too”…

Many believe that this image will spread good deeds, inspire and encourage people to do small acts of kindness for those around them, so that life will be filled with goodness and kindness...

The Phong Chau pontoon bridge, installed by the 249th Engineering Brigade to reconnect traffic between the two banks of the river after the Phong Chau bridge collapsed, was put into operation on the morning of September 30th. The brigade mobilized over 200 soldiers for this task. After the bridge was installed, they also took turns supervising and assisting people in crossing it. On the evening of October 1st, due to the rising water level of the Red River, the pontoon bridge temporarily ceased operation from 6 PM to ensure the safety of people and vehicles.
