Planting flowers along roads
Since April 2023, the People's Committee of Chau Duc District ( Ba Ria - Vung Tau ) has issued a plan to implement the breakthrough initiative of "planting flowers on 50% of traffic routes" in the district in 2023. Immediately after this plan was issued, the People's Committees of communes and towns proactively reported to the Party Committee to develop implementation plans, mobilizing the entire political system and local people to participate in planting, caring for, and protecting trees, raising awareness and responsibility in maintaining general hygiene, and implementing many activities to protect the landscape, environment, and village roads and alleys.

Road 3 in Vinh An hamlet (Binh Gia commune) was previously a rough, unpaved dirt road, where residents often littered, affecting the environment and the village's aesthetics. After the road was paved, the authorities encouraged residents to work together to plant flowers along both sides. Currently, the road is beautifully lined with bougainvillea and sunflowers.
The 2km road leading to Trung Nghia village (Nghia Thanh commune) was planted with yellow cassia flowers by local residents thanks to the efforts of the Women's Union of the commune. The trees have now grown large and are continuously blooming with vibrant yellow flowers. Since the road was planted with yellow cassia trees, residents have also stopped littering along the roadside.
Implementing the movement to plant flowers and trees along traffic routes, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Binh Ba commune mobilized departments, organizations, and people to plant approximately 1,200 yellow trumpet flowers along National Highway 56. A leader of the Binh Ba commune People's Committee said that to date, nearly 30km of traffic routes in the commune have been planted with flowers. Suoi Nghe commune alone has planted 2,400 flowering plants of various types such as lantana, golden trumpet, red butterfly, portulaca, etc., along more than 32km of traffic routes.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Ban, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Duc District, said that planting flowers along traffic routes in the district has been carried out by the local government and people for a long time. However, the planting is still fragmented, small-scale, and not synchronized, so the number planted is not large and the effectiveness is not high.
Currently, Chau Duc District is implementing a breakthrough initiative: "50% of traffic routes will be planted with flowers" in 2023 to ensure uniformity and consistency, aiming to transform the district's roads into green, clean, and beautiful routes. To ensure the plants thrive, after planting, local authorities will directly manage and encourage residents to care for and protect them.
Over 620 km of roads have been planted with flowers.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tan Ban, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Duc District, through the implementation of the project, communes and towns have mobilized and encouraged people and communities to participate in planting nearly 170,000 new flowering trees of various types, with a total length of over 620km, achieving 101.6% of the district's overall plan target. The total mobilized funds for implementation amounted to over 5 billion VND.

"The implementation of the breakthrough plan '50% of traffic routes are planted with flowers' has been actively and diligently carried out by agencies, units, communes, and towns to complete and exceed the overall plan for 2023. Many localities have created beautiful and exemplary flower-lined roads thanks to the people's joint efforts in planting, caring for, and maintaining them regularly; creating a beautiful image of the rural countryside, contributing to promoting the image of Chau Duc district to tourists inside and outside the province," shared Mr. Nguyen Tan Ban, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Duc District.
According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Duc District, in addition to meeting the criteria for green spaces on rural roads in the advanced new rural development criteria, the planting also gradually changes people's awareness of planting and caring for trees, maintaining environmental hygiene, contributing to building bright, green, clean and beautiful roads, thereby making Chau Duc a livable rural area. The formation of beautiful flowerbeds will reduce indiscriminate littering, contributing to environmental protection and the construction of urban landscapes and aesthetics.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Ban stated that in the coming period, the district will direct communes and towns to continue implementing the work of caring for and maintaining the planted flower-lined roads, mobilizing the community to participate, creating a ripple effect, and raising awareness about preserving aesthetics and protecting the living environment in the community on a regular basis in the communes and towns; contributing to the effective implementation of the "All people unite to build a cultured life" movement, the "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas" campaign, the "Building a family with 5 no's and 3 clean's" campaign, and the "Party members volunteer to build new rural areas" movement in the district.
Communes and towns should proactively review roads with sidewalks and space for plants to grow and develop, in order to plan for flower planting by 2025 (achieving 80% or more coverage). They should select a number of roads for focused implementation, creating beautiful, exemplary flower-lined roads that will serve as distinctive highlights for the district and locality, attracting residents and tourists from within and outside the province.
