Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the above remarks after a meeting with members of the US strategic community in Washington D.C. on October 28, according to CGTN. Wang said that during his three-day visit to the U.S. (October 26-28), China and the U.S. had deep, constructive, and substantive strategic exchanges on many issues of common concern, with an attitude of equality and mutual respect.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on October 26.
The diplomat said the two countries agreed to work together to organize a meeting of leaders in San Francisco (California, USA). However, "the road to San Francisco will not be smooth and we cannot rely on autopilot."
Earlier, the White House announced that the two sides were "working toward" a face-to-face meeting between the US and Chinese leaders on the sidelines of the APEC summit, scheduled to take place in San Francisco from November 15-17.
China's Foreign Minister stated that for the meeting to take place, both sides must "return to Bali," referring to the commitments made by the two leaders when they met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, in November 2022. The two countries must eliminate interference, overcome obstacles, strengthen consensus, and accumulate results, Wang said.
Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Minister held meetings with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and President Joe Biden. Wang said both sides sent positive signals about stabilizing and improving US-China relations. While many differences remain to be resolved, Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that both sides believe maintaining dialogue is beneficial and necessary.
