Just like your skin, your hair needs to be cared for according to your individual needs. According to Shilpi Khetarpal, a dermatologist in the US, washing your hair every day is not necessarily wrong, but it is not always necessary, especially for people with curly hair.
Washing your hair too often can weaken it, making it prone to breakage and losing its natural moisture due to the use of too many cleaning products.
People with fine hair should wash their hair at least every other day. If you have an oily scalp and find it bothersome, you can wash it every day.
Washing your hair seems simple but actually depends on many factors.

Here are some factors that can affect how often you wash your hair, according to the Cleveland Clinic .
Hair length
Longer hair is more likely to dry out if washed too often. The oil glands (sebaceous glands) in the scalp produce oil that takes time to reach the ends of the hair. Washing your hair too often strips it of this oil, leaving it brittle and prone to breakage.
Hair type
People with thin, fine hair can wash their hair every other day. For thick, coarse hair, wash it only once a week. Curly, dry hair tends to have a hard time retaining moisture, so wash it less often.
In particular, dyed, curled, or straightened hair is easily damaged and should not be washed too often.
According to Khetarpal, shampoo should be used only on the scalp, while conditioner should be applied from mid-lengths to ends to avoid dryness, breakage or oiliness.
Age
As we age, our oil glands become less active, leading to drier hair. Postmenopausal women experience a decrease in androgens, the hormones that control oil glands, which can make their hair drier. Men also experience a similar condition over time.
Exercise a lot, do not necessarily wash hair every day
Working out or sweating a lot isn’t necessarily a reason to wash your hair every day. According to Khetarpal, you should maintain a regular shampoo schedule, such as once a week, three times a week, or every two weeks, depending on your hair type.
If you feel like you’re washing your hair too often, try cutting back by going an extra day between washes, or cutting back by one wash per week. Your hair may feel a little greasy or itchy at first, but your scalp will adjust over time.
