Hanoi Capital Sports Festival promises to be exciting, even without pickleball

The Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organizes the 11th Hanoi Sports Congress in 2025. The event is one of the key activities to welcome the success of Party Congresses at all levels and towards the 14th National Congress of the Party .

Towards 2030, Over 50% of the capital's population regularly exercises and plays sports.

Aiming at the goal of building a "Cultured, civilized and developed" capital, the Hanoi Sports Festival organized by the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism this year marks a special turning point when it is held for the first time at two levels : grassroots level (commune, ward) and city level.

At the grassroots level, communes and wards organize at least 8 sports or more, focusing on sports that are popular with the people such as athletics, swimming, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, shuttlecock kicking... along with traditional sports and folk games suitable to local traditions. Up to now, 124/126 communes and wards across the city have completed organizing grassroots congresses.

At the city level, the Hanoi Capital Sports Festival will take place in November and December 2025 in 12 communes and wards and 4 facilities managed by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports with 25 competitions. Including: swimming, athletics, table tennis, football, badminton, taekwondo, wrestling, tennis, volleyball (leather, air), basketball, karate, aerobics, wushu, billiards & snooker, chess, Chinese chess, dance sports, pencak silat, vovinam, roller sports, e-sports, traditional martial arts, shuttlecock, aerobics and tug of war. The opening ceremony at the city level is expected to take place at the Hanoi Athletics Palace , and the closing and summary ceremony at the Cultural House - Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center.

In addition to professionalism, propaganda, visual encouragement and online broadcasting were promoted through media channels and digital platforms, contributing to spreading the sports spirit to all classes of people. The Congress was also an occasion to summarize the movement " All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho ", associated with patriotic emulation movements and building grassroots cultural life.

According to the orientation to 2030, over 50% of Hanoi's population regularly practice physical exercise and sports , contributing to improving health, longevity and quality of life. The 11th Congress is not only a major sports festival of the capital but also an important preparation step towards the 10th National Sports Congress in 2026 .

Sharing about the new points in this organization, the representative of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports said: "Previously, many subjects were still drawn manually, but this year, we have applied the electronic drawing method for the subjects. Even at the commune and ward level competitions, electronic scoring is also implemented, helping to ensure more transparency and professionalism."

When asked about the absence of the very "hot" sport of pickleball. The department representative said: " The plan was issued in October 2024, at that time pickleball had not yet been approved for competition rules so it could not be included. This is a pity, because pickleball is a new, attractive sport and is attracting a large number of players, especially young people."
