Selling high priced cosmetics, why does Mailisa omit the Chinese origin on the packaging?

Origin China is not the basis for assessing the quality and safety of cosmetics that Mailisa sells widely. What is strange is that information about the origin is not clearly shown on the packaging of many products.

In the case of Mailisa beauty salon chain, information about product origin is not really transparent so that customers can easily understand and ensure basic rights as consumers.

Country of origin information "suddenly" missing on cosmetics sold by Mailisa

According to Tuoi Tre Online 's investigation, on the sub-labels stuck on many paper boxes containing cosmetics such as intensive moisturizing cream, dark spot fading cream, skin lightening cream... under the brand name Doctor Magic, which is widely sold by the Mailisa beauty salon chain, the unit responsible for production is listed as Guangzhou YRM Biotechnology.

However, right below the business address section, Mailisa only stops at the line "Guangzhou City" (the international name of Guangzhou city), without showing the country of origin.

This detail has also been noticed by some readers. Commenting on the article Mailisa Chain: Importing a series of Chinese cosmetic containers to sell for a fortune, now suddenly removed from the website, account Truong Nguyen felt: "On the label, the manufacturer intentionally did not write the word China, but only wrote Guangzhou City".

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , lawyer Tran Minh Hung (Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association) said that imported cosmetics are required to clearly state the "name of the country of manufacture" on the Vietnamese label, according to regulations in Consolidated Document 09 issued by the Ministry of Health .

Regulations on clearly stating the origin of goods have also been shown in Decree 111/2021 of the Government .

Based on the above, lawyer Hung emphasized that omitting the country of origin is not in accordance with regulations. The law requires it to be clearly stated, for example: "Origin: China", or "Made in China".

According to the record, in the video posted on TikTok and the official Facebook, Ms. Phan Thi Mai (owner of the Mailisa system) also frequently mentioned the phrases imported, foreign, quality... However, some people still left comments below the video wondering which country the product was imported from.

Is the company in Hong Kong a manufacturer or an intermediary helping to bring goods to Vietnam?

Hong Kong Maika Biotechnology Limited is the manufacturer on the secondary label, but the original packaging says "client" in English - Photo: KH

For many Doctor Magic cosmetics distributed by the Mailisa chain, there is still a relatively ambiguous point related to the business named Hong Kong Maika Biotechnology Limited.

Typically, on the Vietnamese sub-label affixed to the paper box containing the product "amino acid deep cleansing facial cleanser", the manufacturer is listed as Hong Kong Maika Biotechnology Limited.

However, right below the cardboard box, the English information shows that this foreign company plays the role of "client".

The confusing information on the original packaging and the secondary label makes it more difficult to trace the origin. This leads to the unclear situation of whether the product is manufactured by a company in Hong Kong (China) or at a factory in mainland China.

Note that many of the cosmetics sold by Mailisa are not in the affordable price range. The customers are mainly women, some of whom have serious skin problems. Clear information is not only a legal requirement but also necessary to ensure consumer rights.
