Bangkok maintains top position
According to an annual report released on December 2 by Euromonitor International, a UK-based market research company, Thailand's capital Bangkok is forecast to be the city that welcomes the most international visitors in 2025, with more than 30.3 million visitors.
Experts say Bangkok's appeal comes from its open tourism policy. However, despite holding the top position, the number of international visitors to this city still recorded a decrease of nearly 7% compared to the figure of 32.4 million in 2024.

Hong Kong ranked second with 23.2 million visitors. London ranked third with 22.7 million visitors, and Macau ranked fourth with 20.4 million visitors.
Differences in ranking criteria
Despite leading in terms of visitor numbers, Bangkok did not make the top 10 when it came to the world’s most attractive cities. The ranking is based on six pillars including economic performance, business tourism, infrastructure, policy, safety and sustainability.
According to this criterion, Paris (France) is at the top, followed by Madrid (Spain) and Tokyo (Japan).
Global tourism trends 2025
Euromonitor International’s report also points out an important trend in 2025: tourist cities will shift their strategic focus from quantity to quality to address overcrowding. Destinations will prioritize attracting long-stay guests, with high spending levels and a sense of environmental and cultural protection.
In addition, many countries are adjusting entry fees due to security and inflation concerns. The UK and the US have both increased entry fees in 2025. The European Union plans to introduce a higher-fee Travel Authorization System (ETIAS). In Asia, Japan is also considering increasing visa fees and developing a new electronic authorization system, expected to be operational by 2028. These changes are expected to have a direct impact on the long-term attractiveness of destinations around the world.
