Investment Newspaper organizes Workshop "Tax amendment to promote business activities"
On the morning of August 14, 2024 in Hanoi, Dau Tu Newspaper organized a scientific workshop "Amending taxes to promote business activities" to contribute more opinions, helping the drafting agency of the Law on Special Consumption Tax (amended) have a multi-dimensional perspective.
The draft Law on Special Consumption Tax (amended) is being drafted by the Ministry of Finance , and is expected to be commented on by the National Assembly at the 8th session (October 2024) and approved at the 9th session (May 2025). It includes some important changes such as the proposal to increase the special consumption tax rate on alcohol and beer products and add sugary soft drinks to the list of subjects subject to special consumption tax.
According to the viewpoint of business associations such as the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the Vietnam Beer - Alcohol - Beverage Association (VBA), along with many experts and businesses, the proposal to increase taxes needs to be studied in practice, with a feasible roadmap, considering the endurance of businesses and industries with the benefits of the tax, while ensuring harmony with common regulations of the country.
The workshop “Tax amendment to promote business activities” with the presence of Ms. Chu Thi Van Anh, Vice President and General Secretary of VBA, shared about the current situation of the alcoholic beverage industry and supply chain; Mr. Bui Ngoc Tuan, Deputy General Director of Tax and Legal Advisory Services, Deloitte Vietnam shared about Special Consumption Tax and the role of macro-regulatory tools for the beer and alcohol industry; Ms. Le Minh Trang, Deputy Director, Retail Research Department, NielsenIQ Vietnam analyzed consumer behavior trends for alcoholic beverages.
