FourFourTwo writer Mark White wrote: "The Vietnamese women's national team has called up 30 players to prepare for their first-ever World Cup appearance in the country's football history."
In theory, the Vietnamese women's team wasn't highly rated in their first appearance at this tournament. However, in reality, few teams have had such an impressive preparation and performance as they did.
This team just won the gold medal in women's football at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32).
Previously, they had also qualified for the second round of the 2024 Olympic qualifiers in the Asian region, after two consecutive victories in the first round.
The Vietnamese women's national team is currently ranked 33rd in the FIFA Women's World Rankings.
In their opening match in Group E of the 2023 Women's World Cup, Coach Mai Duc Chung's team will face the reigning world champions, the USA (July 22nd).
Next, Huynh Nhu and her teammates will face the Portuguese national team (July 27th). This match is considered "easier" for the Vietnamese team before they face their third opponent in the group stage, the Netherlands, the world runners-up (August 1st).
According to FourFourTwo 's predictions, the matches against the USA and the Netherlands will see a flurry of goals raining down on the Vietnamese team's net. However, experts are still hoping for a miracle: that the Vietnamese strikers will score against these two formidable opponents who are currently at the top of the world.
Meanwhile, the match against Portugal is considered a good opportunity for Coach Mai Duc Chung's players to achieve a positive result, especially since captain Huynh Nhu spent a long time playing in Portugal for Lank Vilaverdense and has some knowledge of several Portuguese national team players.
FourFourTwo expects that the harmonious blend of youth and experience among the players will be a positive factor in helping the Southeast Asian team achieve a performance beyond expectations at the 2023 World Cup.
According to the plan, coach Mai Duc Chung will finalize the official list of players participating in the 2023 World Cup on July 9th. All of the Vietnamese national team's group stage matches will take place in New Zealand.
