Environmental protection promotes sustainable development

According to Mr. Vo Thanh Xuan, Deputy Secretary of the Vinh Binh Commune Party Committee, the draft document submitted to the 14th National Congress of the Party needs to clarify the guiding viewpoint and thoroughly grasp the combination of socio- economic development and environmental protection to achieve sustainable development. Environmental protection must be identified as a key content along with the country's socio-economic development. This is a national strategic issue to ensure public health, for the quality of life and socio-economic development. Air, water and soil pollution cause many diseases, affecting public health, labor productivity... Industries such as agriculture, tourism, fisheries... directly depend on the environment. If the environment is polluted and degraded, the economy will suffer heavy losses.

Mr. Vo Thanh Xuan said that Vietnam is one of the countries most heavily affected by climate change, so environmental protection is a proactive way to minimize risks of natural disasters, rising sea levels, droughts, etc. Foreign investors are increasingly interested in environmental standards. A country with a green strategy will have a competitive advantage in attracting investment for sustainable development.

In An Giang , the province strives to build Phu Quoc special economic zone into an international-class destination; including transforming to “Green Transport” before 2030, paving the way for “Net Zero”, becoming one of the islands with the best environment globally.

The province has expanded cooperation with localities, organizations and businesses nationwide and internationally, accompanying relevant parties to build a green Phu Quoc island, a harmoniously developed ecosystem, becoming a model of "Green - Smart - Zero Emission Island", inspiring the region and the world .

To do this, localities need to engage the community and raise awareness and responsibility in environmental protection. In particular, there needs to be strategic solutions, integrating environmental criteria into all socio-economic development policies, investing in green technology, encouraging the use of renewable energy, effective waste treatment and smart urban development. Localities should promote education and communication, raise public awareness of environmental protection; strengthen inspection and punishment of polluting acts and encourage businesses to fulfill their social responsibilities.

“Protecting the environment is not only the responsibility of each individual but also the survival strategy of the entire nation. Putting the environment at the center of the country’s development process will help Vietnam not only develop rapidly but also develop sustainably, in harmony with nature and towards a prosperous future for future generations,” said Mr. Vo Thanh Xuan.

Promoting digital transformation and digital economy

Digital transformation and digital economy are strong driving forces to improve productivity and create new values for the country in the new era. Commenting on this content, journalist Doan Hong Phuc, Permanent Vice President of the An Giang Provincial Journalists Association, said that the draft Political Report of the 14th National Party Congress needs to emphasize more clearly and specifically the role of digital transformation and digital economy, prioritize science and technology; allocate appropriate financial investment for science and technology, innovation and digital transformation, promote commercialization of research results, and strongly build a mechanism for computer innovation (big data, AI, big data).

According to journalist Doan Hong Phuc, to strongly promote innovation, it is necessary to review and remove administrative barriers, perfect institutions to promote sustainable development, and have strong solutions to effectively protect intellectual property rights...

Regarding education and training, journalist Doan Hong Phuc suggested focusing on standardizing and modernizing teaching content and methods; strongly transforming digitally in education, applying modern technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI) and big data in universities.

Along with the proposals and recommendations of journalist Doan Hong Phuc, many other comments from officials and party members on this content have strategic significance and have a positive and profound impact on the socio-economic development of the country, especially in the context of the fourth industrial revolution taking place strongly.

Many opinions say that promoting digital transformation and digital economy contributes to shaping the modern economy, reducing dependence on resources, shifting to a growth model based on knowledge and technology; increasing labor productivity and management efficiency; expanding the market, creating conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to participate in the global value chain.

Vietnam prioritizes investment in science, technology and innovation, contributing to establishing a solid foundation for sustainable development and enhancing national competitiveness. From there, knowledge is transformed into economic value, creating an innovation ecosystem and encouraging technology startups.

The State needs to create a favorable and transparent legal environment to encourage innovation and investment; reduce procedural burdens for businesses, especially start-ups; protect the rights of inventors, promote research and development, and increase the confidence of domestic and foreign investors.

These recommendations not only provide strategic guidance for the country’s development in the new period, but also demonstrate a long-term vision for a digital Vietnam – technology, innovation and knowledge are the main drivers of growth. This is the foundation for Vietnam to break through, catch up and lead in a number of key technology areas in the country’s development and integration strategy.
