Strengthening environmental protection, food safety and clean water supply in rural areas is one of the thematic programs in the new rural area (NTM) construction period 2021-2025. Therefore, Phu Tho province identifies rural environmental protection as a key solution and task to improve people's quality of life and build sustainable NTM.

In order to protect the rural environment, the work of treating livestock waste and agricultural by-products in the direction of substance circulation is of interest. By-products are composted into traditional organic fertilizers used as fertilizers for crops; as raw materials for production in other industries, bedding materials, biological bedding in livestock farming; dried, ground into powder to supplement animal feed or processed into other commercial products... The work of collecting and transporting household waste as well as collecting and treating pesticide packaging has also been strongly directed by the province at all levels, sectors and localities to implement in accordance with regulations.
To contribute to reducing rural environmental pollution, the Provincial People's Committee has issued decisions approving the Project on collection, transportation and treatment of domestic waste in Phu Tho province for the period 2021-2025; Project on collection, transportation and treatment of solid construction waste in the province. In particular, focusing on reviewing organizations and enterprises that are collecting and transporting local domestic waste, restructuring them to suit the implementation of the Project.
Along with that, many programs and models to support rural landscape construction have been implemented, creating positive and widespread effects, mobilizing resources in localities in environmental protection and rural landscape construction.
With 1 billion VND from the career capital, 9 new rural residential areas of 4 communes in the province have been supported to deploy the model of bright, green, clean, beautiful, safe villages and hamlets associated with the construction of model new rural residential areas. The residential areas have been supported to improve the rural environmental landscape such as: planting trees, building flower roads, installing lighting systems on roads, equipping tools for collecting and transporting household waste...
The model has supported the planting of 440 trees of all kinds on rural roads, 210 trash bins, and 160 solar-powered light bulbs in residential areas, striving to build a model new-style rural residential area.
In rural areas, the goal of developing craft villages in conjunction with environmental protection has been implemented with attention by all levels, sectors and localities. Currently, many localities are orienting the development of craft villages in a sustainable direction, combining craft villages with tourism development, restoring cultural identity, and developing products with unique characteristics and high artistic value.
Comrade Nguyen Vinh An - Head of the Department of Environmental Protection (Department of Natural Resources and Environment) said: The Provincial People's Committee has directed sectors and localities to effectively implement the program of preserving and developing craft villages in the period of 2022-2030, in which solutions to handle environmental pollution in craft villages are proposed such as: Supporting investment and upgrading environmental treatment systems at facilities in craft villages; building a centralized wastewater treatment system for craft villages; building a system for collecting and classifying solid waste. Speeding up the progress of relocating production facilities of craft villages in residential areas with high risk of environmental pollution to planned craft village industrial parks and clusters, investing in technical infrastructure...
To protect the environment in rural areas to improve the material and spiritual life of people, all levels and sectors are focusing on implementing key tasks and solutions according to Plan No. 835/KH-UBND dated March 15, 2023 of the Provincial People's Committee on implementing the Program to strengthen environmental protection, food safety, and clean water supply in rural areas in the construction of new rural areas by 2025 in the province.
Accordingly, the key tasks to be carried out are: Building and preserving the rural environment landscape in the direction of light, green, clean, beautiful, forming livable countryside; synchronously implementing measures to thoroughly handle environmental pollution in craft villages, livestock areas, industrial clusters and points; renovating and upgrading concentrated domestic waste treatment areas in communes and towns to become environmentally friendly waste treatment areas; closely combining compliance with legal regulations on environmental protection with regularly and continuously launching the movement for the entire population to participate in building new rural areas.
