Reuters reported that on May 28, a court in South Korea issued an arrest warrant for a male passenger who intentionally opened the door of an Asiana Airlines plane, just minutes before it landed in Daegu City (North Gyeongsang Province).

Previously, on May 26, a male passenger, confirmed to be in his 30s, opened the door of the A321-200 plane when it was at an altitude of about 213 meters above the ground, causing panic among passengers on board, according to Yonhap news agency.

The male passenger was detained immediately after the plane landed. However, realizing that the suspect was likely to flee before trial, the Daegu court issued a warrant and arrested the suspect on charges of violating the Aviation Security Act. The warrant will allow police to detain the suspect for a longer period.

According to initial information, investigating officials said the suspect's last name is Lee, but did not reveal his first name. The suspect said he opened the door because "he wanted to get off the plane quickly."

"I feel really sorry for the children," the suspect told reporters on May 28.

According to South Korean rescuers, the students on board the plane were taken to hospital with respiratory problems and discharged after about 2 hours.

Yonhap reported that Asiana Airlines stopped selling seats closest to the exit on its A321-200 aircraft starting May 28. Asiana Airlines has not yet responded to the report.
