After three days of work, the 8th ASEAN Peacekeeping Centers Network Conference in Vietnam (APCN 2023) concluded successfully on the afternoon of June 15th in Hanoi.

In his closing remarks, Colonel Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, affirmed that the conference had completed its agenda and achieved its objectives and requirements to further strengthen the peacekeeping partnership among ASEAN members. The conference adopted the Minutes of Meeting with specific results, including a summary and assessment of the results and progress of the APCN Network, and a consensus on the direction and methods of operation of the APCN Network in the coming years. It also outlined the continued implementation of the ASEAN Peacekeeping Partnership Action Plan, focusing on the ASEAN Peacekeeping Command and Staff Exercise (APSE) within the APCN framework, aiming to enhance training capacity and coordination in effectively carrying out missions at United Nations peacekeeping missions, thereby making a practical contribution to the overall peacekeeping efforts of the international community.

Rear Admiral Retino Kunto MT Opsla, Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces Peacekeeping Center (IAF PKC), highly appreciated the preparation and successful organization of the conference by the host country, Vietnam. He affirmed: “The warm and hospitable welcome from Vietnam in its capacity as the Chair of APCN has created favorable conditions for this year's APCN conference to be held successfully. Hanoi, with its rich history and culture, is an ideal location to host the 8th APCN event.”

The primary objective of APCN is to promote and enhance cooperation among peacekeeping centers of ASEAN member states through experience sharing, expert exchanges, and other capacity-building activities in the field of peacekeeping.

Rear Admiral Retino Kunto MT Opsla assessed that the 8th APCN Conference was held at an opportune time to strengthen intra-bloc cooperation and build strategic steps to address emerging challenges. Furthermore, the conference yielded positive results aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region through cooperative relationships and mutual understanding based on shared respect within Southeast Asia.

At the conference, the Director General of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department - Chairman of APCN 2023 - handed over the APCN flag to Indonesia - the rotating Chairman of APCN 2024.
