On November 24, Dr. Nguyen Duc Cuong, Director of the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi ( Quang Binh ), said that doctors had just performed surgery to close a brain fistula caused by a pair of chopsticks piercing through the nose and into the brain of a 35-year-old man, saving the patient's life.
Accordingly, patient PVT (born in 1988, residing in Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province) was taken to the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi by his family for emergency treatment in a state of headache, loss of vision, and a lot of discharge from the nose and throat.

According to the patient's family, about 5 months ago, while drinking, Mr. T. got into a fight with someone else and was injured. Mr. T. was taken to the emergency room but no abnormalities were found in the nasal area, he was only treated with internal medicine and then returned home.
Recently, Mr. T. felt an itch in his nose so he used tweezers to pick up a foreign object and was surprised to discover a large foreign object inside, which was a pair of chopsticks.

His family took him to the Vietnam-Cuba Hospital (Dong Hoi) for emergency treatment. Through a CT scan of the brain, doctors recorded a condition of intracranial pneumothorax. After a consultation, the medical team decided to perform endoscopic surgery through the nose combined with microsurgery to close the brain fistula for the patient.
Currently, the patient's health condition is stable and he continues to receive treatment and recovery, awaiting discharge from the hospital.
According to Master, Doctor CKII Nguyen Van Man, Head of Neurosurgery Department, Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital Dong Hoi, this is considered a rare case. Doctors must carefully consider and choose the optimal surgical method to avoid leaving sequelae for the patient.
