Tạp chí Doanh NghiệpTạp chí Doanh Nghiệp22/10/2024

According to Minister Huynh Thanh Dat of DNVN, the Ministry of Science and Technology will coordinate with relevant domestic and international units to build a sustainable Halal ecosystem in Vietnam, meeting the highest international standards. Vietnam hopes to cooperate with partners to build a stronger Halal industry in Vietnam.

According to the Global Islamic Economic Report, spending on Halal products and services is projected to reach US$1.67 trillion by 2025. With proper and effective investment, Vietnam's agricultural and fisheries sectors can tap into the enormous potential of this market, where Muslims will account for 30% of the world's population by 2024.

Halal products are those that comply with Islamic law, meeting strict requirements from ingredients to production, processing, and transportation. Participating in the Halal market not only opens up significant economic opportunities for Vietnam but also helps the country assert its position in the global market.

At the National Halal Conference held in Hanoi on the afternoon of October 22nd, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat stated that over the years, Halal products and services have become increasingly popular and widely used globally, from Muslim to non-Muslim countries. This is due to Halal products meeting many criteria regarding food safety, being green, clean, and sustainable.

This opens up many opportunities for Vietnam, a country that exports a diverse range of products across many sectors. The Vietnamese Halal industry is receiving increasing attention and development. In particular, in 2024, the Ministry of Science and Technology established the National Halal Certification Center. This will create favorable conditions for businesses producing and exporting Vietnamese Halal products.

The Minister affirmed that in the coming time, the Ministry will coordinate with relevant domestic and foreign units to build a sustainable Halal ecosystem in Vietnam, meeting the highest international standards. Vietnam wishes to cooperate with partners to build an increasingly strong Halal industry in Vietnam.

Mr. Mohamed Jinna, Chairman of the Halal Certification Authority of India, noted that the global Halal economy is worth over $2 trillion, creating significant opportunities for Vietnam in trade growth and attracting investment. He highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts in promoting global cooperation in the Halal sector and affirmed that adhering to the highest Halal standards will help Vietnam build trust with Muslim consumers.

To truly tap the potential of this market, according to Mr. Mohamed Jinna, Vietnam must meet the highest standards of Halal certification.

"Products not only need to meet requirements but also need to gain the trust of Muslim consumers worldwide. Halal certification is a bridge between Vietnam and the global Muslim community – a bridge leading to unprecedented trade, partnerships, and investments," Mr. Mohamed Jinna emphasized.

Pointing out the potential for Halal tourism development in Vietnam, Mr. Mohamed Jinna suggested that tourism facilities and hotels should be equipped to serve the special needs of Muslim tourists to promote economic growth and enhance Vietnam's reputation as a Halal-friendly destination.

From the perspective of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Mr. Moteb Al-Mezani, Chairman of the GCC Halal Certification Center, noted that Vietnam has shown strong interest in the Halal market, with many activities promoting cooperation and exchange of experience. Halal certification is not only an opportunity for Vietnam to participate more deeply in the Islamic market but also helps Vietnamese products penetrate all Halal markets worldwide.

Mr. Ihsan ÖVÜT, Secretary-General of the Standards Institute of Islamic Countries (SMIIC), emphasized that the Halal industry offers great opportunities for Vietnam not only in tourism but also in other fields such as food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Therefore, Vietnam needs to adopt unified Halal standards to fully realize its economic potential.

“The adoption of unified Halal standards will certainly greatly support Vietnam in economic growth, encourage innovation and open a new era of global partnership,” Mr. ÖVÜT shared.

The Halal Conference is the largest international event on Halal held since the Prime Minister issued the "Plan to Strengthen International Cooperation to Build and Develop the Halal Industry in Vietnam until 2030" on February 14, 2023. The conference has significant directional implications for the development of Vietnam's Halal industry. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and delivered a keynote address at the conference.
