On the afternoon of November 1st, Mr. Nguyen Khac Than, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, inspected winter crop production in Kien Xuong and Vu Thu districts. Accompanying him were Mr. Dang Thanh Giang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; and leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

With the motto of "using winter crops to compensate for summer crops", maximizing the area of ​​winter crops to increase the value of the crop industry, recently, localities in the province have been focusing on winter crop production. Up to now, the winter crop area has been planted about 28,800 hectares, reaching nearly 80% of the plan, mainly corn, melons, squash and vegetables of all kinds. Of which, Kien Xuong district has planted 3,010 hectares/3,850 hectares; Vu Thu district has planted 3,700 hectares/5,200 hectares.

According to the agricultural sector's assessment, winter crops are growing and developing quite favorably, with over 2,100 hectares of warm-weather winter crops already harvested, mainly pumpkins and various vegetables. Currently, the agricultural sector continues to coordinate with localities to guide and encourage the planting of cold-weather crops, mainly potatoes and various vegetables, within the appropriate planting season, contributing to increased income for farmers.

During a field inspection of winter crop production in Vu An commune (Kien Xuong district) and Trung An commune (Vu Thu district), Mr. Nguyen Khac Than, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, requested the agricultural sector and localities to focus on directing the planting and care of winter crops; harvesting warm-weather crops that are ready for harvest, while expanding the area of ​​cold-weather winter crops, striving to achieve a winter crop area of ​​40,000 hectares or more in 2024 to develop the agricultural sector and leverage the advantages of winter crops in the province. This includes maintaining and developing traditional crop growing areas and high-value crops with stable markets. Expanding the area of ​​safe production, production according to Good Agricultural Practices (VietGAP) and organic standards; and strengthening chain linkages in product consumption.

The Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the agricultural sector to assign cadres to strengthen grassroots work, coordinate with localities to supervise and guide the techniques of planting, caring for, and controlling pests and diseases, and to protect the planted winter crop area to achieve the highest possible yield; and to inspect, supervise, and guide localities in implementing the issued production support mechanisms and policies to ensure strict adherence, targeting the right beneficiaries, and effectiveness.

Visiting the VietGAP-certified vegetable production area and several models introducing new crop varieties into production at Trung An Green Agriculture Cooperative in Trung An commune, the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee praised and highly appreciated the cooperative's proactive and bold approach in introducing new high-economic-value crop varieties, linking them with consumption and production; applying scientific and technological advancements, and providing the market with safe agricultural products. At the same time, he instructed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to research and propose support mechanisms to develop and expand production models towards safe and organic farming, aiming to enhance the value and efficiency of production and promote sustainable development of the crop production sector.

The Japanese cucumber farming model involves a linked production and guaranteed purchase agreement by the Trung An Green Agriculture Cooperative in Trung An commune (Vu Thu district).
