Many hydroelectric reservoirs in Lam Dong province have announced water discharge to proactively respond to heavy rain and complicated weather developments due to the impact of storm No. 13 (storm KALMAEGI).
According to the announcement of Dai Ninh Hydropower Company: from 13:00 on November 6, Dai Ninh Lake (Duc Trong Commune, Lam Dong) increased the flood discharge through the spillway from 150 m3/s to 200 m3/s to regulate flood water. At noon of the same day, the lake water level was 878.36 m (near the normal flood level of 880.0 m), the water flow into the lake was 142 m³/s, while the power generation flow was 55 m³/s. The discharge flow can be adjusted up/down depending on the actual rainfall and flow, the company will continue to update new announcements when necessary. The regulated discharge water flows to Dong Nai River, not to Luy River (old Binh Thuan ).
Dong Nai Hydropower Company issued a notice that from 12 noon on November 6, the regulated discharge flow through the spillway of Dong Nai 3 and 4 reservoirs will be increased from 37 m³/s to 100 m³/s, depending on the rain situation and the water flow to the reservoir, it will be regulated accordingly to avoid damage to the downstream area. Accordingly, people downstream of Dong Nai River in Bao Lam, Da Teh, Cat Tien areas are warned not to go near the river and stream areas, to avoid the risk of sudden water rise; move people, livestock, and property out of low-lying areas.
Similarly, Trung Nam Hydropower Joint Stock Company said that from 1 p.m. on November 6, Dong Nai 2 reservoir increased the spillway discharge from 100 m³/s to 150 m³/s to ensure flood safety. At noon on the same day, the water level of Dong Nai 2 reservoir reached 679.55 m (near the normal rise of 680 m); water flow into the reservoir was 210 m³/s, and the machine flow was 110 m³/s.
The total amount of water discharged downstream is about 260 m³/second. The company will continue to adjust the water discharge depending on the rain and flow situation, and will update when there are changes, and advise people in the downstream area of Dong Nai 2 Lake in Dinh Trang Thuong Commune, Phuc Tho - Lam Ha, Duc Trong) to proactively respond...
According to preliminary statistics, in the old Lam Dong province alone, there are 33 hydroelectric reservoirs, most of which are built on the Dong Nai river system.
Meanwhile, on November 6, Lam Dong Hydrometeorological Station said that in the past 24 hours, the province had moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some places such as Suoi Kiet (103 mm), Tan Minh (65 mm), and Ward 3 - Bao Loc (61 mm).
It is forecasted that in the next 2-3 days, Lam Dong will continue to have heavy to very heavy rain due to the circulation after storm Kalmaegi, with average rainfall of 50-120 mm/24 hours, with some places receiving more than 200 mm. Therefore, there is a very high risk of flash floods, landslides on hillsides, mountain passes, and localized flooding in low-lying areas in many areas.
Authorities advise people not to cross streams, creeks, steep mountain passes and low-lying areas. Evacuate people, livestock and property to safe places. Local authorities strictly implement the motto "4 on-site, 3 ready" to respond to storms and floods.
To proactively lead units and localities to respond to storm No. 13, Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi issued urgent Notice No. 457/TB-UBND, assigning each leader of the Provincial People's Committee to be on duty to command in the areas.
Specifically, Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi and Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc Phuc are on duty in area 1 (old Lam Dong province); Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh is on duty in area 2 (old Binh Thuan province) and Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Le Trong Yen is on duty in area 3 (old Dak Nong province)...
