At the age of 3, Rmah H'Din was diagnosed with chronic thrombocytopenic purpura. For a long time, the family took the child to many places for treatment but the disease did not improve, the platelets fluctuated erratically. Not only that, the prolonged use of corticosteroids caused the child to experience many side effects.
Due to the difficult economic situation, the family could not continue to take the child far away for treatment. Knowing the child's situation, a charity group recently supported the family to take the child to Duc Giang General Hospital (Hanoi) for treatment.
Master - Doctor Nguyen Trung Phong, Deputy Head of the Department of Pediatrics, said that the child was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of fever, scattered subcutaneous bleeding, malnutrition (weighing 18.5 kg), and microcytic anemia. Test results showed low platelets.

Children also have signs of Cushing's syndrome due to previous corticosteroid use. This condition requires doctors to adjust the treatment regimen and consider alternative corticosteroid measures to limit side effects and support the body's condition.
“The biggest challenge for the medical team is that the patient's platelets do not respond stably even after stopping corticosteroids and switching to second-line treatment. The process of monitoring platelet index and re-evaluating malnutrition and anemia requires perseverance and continuous coordination,” said Dr. Phong.
Fortunately, after a period of treatment and close monitoring, the child showed clear progress such as gaining weight, eating better and becoming active and smart.
According to Dr. Phong, although the platelet index after changing the medication did not immediately stabilize, the improvement in nutrition and psychological interaction showed that the baby's body was gradually adapting well to the new regimen.
Children are closely monitored for platelet response, and medication dosages are adjusted based on regular test results. At the same time, they receive specialized nutritional care, which contributes to weight gain, immune support, and increased response to treatment.

Duc Giang Hospital has decided to provide free treatment for the child (Photo of the child on discharge day: TN).
Parallel intervention of anemia and management of side effects after corticosteroids helps the child's body recover comprehensively.
After more than a month of persistent treatment, H'Din became healthier, more agile, more active, his test results improved significantly and he was discharged from the hospital. The hospital also decided to provide free treatment for the child.
