In the middle of the flood season, two bridges in Da Nang and Quang Ngai collapsed, causing traffic disruption.
Yesterday (November 2), many people were shocked to see Cay Sung bridge (in Phuoc An village, Binh Minh commune, Quang Ngai province) collapse. At the time the bridge collapsed, several vehicles were moving on the bridge. One person fell into the water but was quickly able to swim to shore. The motorbike has not yet been found. Cay Sung Bridge is 12m long and 5m wide, connecting 3 hamlets in Phuoc An village: Chau Loc, Chau Binh and Chau Long. Cay Sung Bridge is one of the two main routes from Phuoc An to the commune center. However, in recent days, heavy rains have also caused the remaining route to be heavily flooded, making it difficult for people to travel. Immediately after the bridge collapse, the leaders of Binh Minh commune quickly directed the implementation of temporary remedial measures as well as finding solutions to ensure traffic by boat and canoe to transport food and essential necessities to 250 isolated households. The Military Command of Binh Minh commune was present at the scene, put up warning ropes and organized a stand-by to prohibit all vehicles from moving across the bridge area to ensure safety. Meanwhile, in Da Nang City, due to the impact of floods from October 24 to 30, Duy Phuoc Bridge (Ba Ngan Bridge) located on National Highway 14H, connecting Nam Phuoc Commune with Hoi An Ward and Dien Ban Dong Ward, had its bridge abutment washed away, causing a bridge span to collapse. The bridge abutment on the Hoi An side collapsed, part of the approach road was completely washed away into the Thu Bon River. The embankments on both sides of the bridge abutment were also damaged, and much of the land along the bank was washed away. It is known that Ba Ngan Bridge is more than 200m long, only about 3.5m wide, was built a long time ago, does not meet current traffic needs, especially for cars and trucks. In recent times, the degraded state, narrow bridge surface has caused traffic through the area to be frequently congested when thousands of vehicles pass through every day. According to the leader of Nam Phuoc Commune People's Committee, after the bridge pier collapsed, the locality installed barriers, put up warning signs and temporarily stopped traffic across the bridge from Nam Phuoc Commune to ensure safety for people and vehicles.
