The candidate structure is well-structured and harmonious.
At the conference, the Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Can Tho City People's Council, Ma Thi Tuoi, presented the proposed allocation of the structure, composition, and number of candidates to be nominated for election to the Can Tho City People's Council for the 2026-2031 term and to the 16th National Assembly.
According to the plan, the People's Council of Can Tho City will elect 85 delegates from 150 candidates , ensuring a harmonious balance in terms of composition, gender, ethnicity, and age; allocated across the Party, government, armed forces, Fatherland Front, mass organizations, religious organizations, economic , social, professional, and commune/ward levels.
Regarding the 16th National Assembly, Can Tho City was elected with 18 representatives , including 10 representatives residing and working in the locality and 8 representatives nominated by the Central Government , with a total of 25 candidates . The proposed structure for the group of representatives residing in the city includes: 1 key leader; 3 full-time representatives; 1 representative from the Vietnam Fatherland Front; 1 representative from the military; 1 representative from the Department of Justice; 1 representative from a religious organization; and 1 representative from a university.
The conference unanimously agreed on the proposed negotiation plan.
The conference took place in a democratic and responsible spirit, recording 7 discussion points and reaching 100% consensus on the structure, composition, and number of candidates nominated for the 16th National Assembly and the Can Tho City People's Council for the 2026-2031 term.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Dong Van Thanh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Can Tho City, and Chairman of the City Election Council, emphasized that this is the first election implementing the two-tiered local government model, so many difficulties will arise. He requested that the Fatherland Front at all levels closely coordinate with the Standing Committee of the People's Council, the Election Committee, and relevant agencies to promptly monitor the situation and resolve obstacles at the grassroots level.
He also requested continued strengthening of supervision throughout the election process to ensure that the election is successful, democratic, and transparent; and urged agencies and units allocated candidates to organize personnel nominations in accordance with regulations and submit dossiers on time.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Ho Thi Cam Dao, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City, affirmed that the first consultative conference had completed all the planned contents in a serious and democratic spirit. The results achieved serve as a basis for the Standing Committee of the City People's Council to finalize the allocation plan and adjust the structure, composition, and number of candidates.
After receiving the revised document from the competent authority, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Can Tho City will work with the assigned agencies, organizations, and units to guide the process and procedures for preparing candidacy dossiers. The timeline for organizing the conference to introduce candidates and gather voter opinions is set as follows: National Assembly Deputies of the 16th term: from December 17-22, 2025; Can Tho City People's Council Deputies for the 2026-2031 term: from February 4-8, 2026.
