Recently, at the scientific seminar "Vietnam University Management under the impact of digital technology and artificial intelligence", experts and educators gave their views on the potential and challenges when AI develops rapidly in education.
Mr. Nguyen Son Hai, Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Information (Ministry of Education and Training) sees the positive side, AI can be like a teaching assistant for teachers or a good assistant for managers. As for learners, AI can be like a tutor in all subjects and fields.
“In the education sector, there are many difficulties and bottlenecks that can be overcome by using AI,” said Mr. Hai.
But in reality, according to Mr. Hai, this also poses many potential risks, especially for learners if they approach and use AI incorrectly.
Mr. Hai gave an example that currently, in universities, there are essays, graduation projects or articles in English of very high quality. According to him, if that is really the ability of the learner, this is a good thing. But if that is a product of AI, this is a challenge in current university management.

Mr. Nguyen Son Hai, Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Information, Ministry of Education and Training.
Professor Dr. Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences, has a similar view. He said that in the past, when he picked up a student's thesis, he could confidently say that "every page he opened would have errors." However, now, when he opened the thesis pages, he was surprised to see that the writing was very smooth, with no spelling mistakes or other obvious errors.
In addition, he also pointed out another “worrying” thing about education. Currently, many teachers also use technology to create lectures and assign exercises. Students also use technology to write and return assignments.
“In the end, no one actually learns. It’s all just… technology learning,” he said.
Not only at university level, but also at high school level. Teachers are trained to prepare lessons in minutes. As for students, every time she assigns a problem, they can solve it all because they just need to take a photo and upload it, AI can answer immediately within seconds.
“These are obvious and unavoidable stories. What we need to do is change the way we teach, learn and interact. This is not an easy problem to solve,” said Prof. Dr. Le Anh Vinh.
Faced with the rapid development of AI, CMC University also faces many challenges. According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Principal of the school, one of those challenges is that now when grading papers, teachers themselves have a headache because they do not know whether the students do it themselves or the AI does it.
Can't stop learners from using AI
Although there are many concerns about the development of AI, experts agree that this is an inevitable trend in the world. Preventing students from using AI will put them at a disadvantage in adapting to the times and lacking necessary skills such as looking up information when going to work. Therefore, what needs to be done is to guide students to use AI effectively and correctly.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, his school has recently focused on improving the effectiveness of teaching and administration when using AI. The school targets three main pillars, including administrative management using AI, teaching and learning using AI, and student experience using AI.
Recently, the school has put into use a series of technology applications, bringing some benefits to training work. For example, in the past, when proctoring exams, the school needed 2 invigilators, but in the past 2 years, the school has reduced the number to only 1 invigilator thanks to AI cameras. In the near future, the school will set a goal of not needing invigilators to proctor exams.
Or for questions related to training, the school has created an automatic response system to help significantly reduce administrative work. Immediately after asking a question, the system will lead students to related red-stamped paper documents so that they have a legal basis to answer questions.

On the side of the Ministry of Education and Training, Mr. Nguyen Son Hai said that recently the Ministry has directed and built a strategy for applying AI in education until 2030, with a vision to 2035.
This strategy identifies the view that AI must be a breakthrough driving force in the new development stage of the education sector, contributing to shaping content, methods, tools, and even the roles of learners and teachers.
On this journey, teachers and administrators must be the pioneers in applying AI, guiding and guiding learners to use AI responsibly. In addition, teachers must be the regular force, constantly updating to innovate teaching methods, testing and assessment to adapt to learners' use of AI.
“There needs to be measures to control the use of AI by learners, especially in scientific products. This is a heavy requirement for teachers in the new context,” said Mr. Hai.
