- On the morning of June 19, the Provincial General Hospital informed that over the past 3 months, the hospital's Pediatrics Department has received, cared for and successfully treated a premature baby boy.
Previously, baby TA was born at 24 weeks of gestation at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Provincial General Hospital, weighing 700 grams. This is the case of premature birth with the lowest birth weight successfully treated at the Department of Pediatrics since the beginning of 2025.
According to specialist doctor II Le Quang Phuong, Deputy Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Provincial General Hospital, the child was born too early, most of the organs at this time were not fully developed, so the baby was very weak and faced many problems such as: hypothermia due to heat loss through the skin, the lungs could not perform the respiratory role, the mother's milk was not digested, newborn reflexes, the functions of the cardiovascular, urinary, circulatory systems... were almost not guaranteed. The chance of survival was almost very slim.
After birth, baby TA was put on a ventilator to support his breathing, given complete intravenous nutrition and a special care regimen. With the efforts in treatment, the dedicated care of doctors and nurses, and optimal methods such as : mechanical ventilation, Surfactant injection, respiratory stimulation, ensuring nutrition through intravenous feeding, antibiotics to fight infections, blood transfusion and emergency treatment of blood coagulation disorders, alkali compensation to solve the problem of metabolic acidosis... after more than 3 months of treatment, the baby's health has progressed positively, he can be weaned off the ventilator, can breathe on his own and is completely breastfed.
After 94 days of treatment, baby TA's health has improved, his heart, lung, and digestive functions are stable, he weighs 2.3 kg and has been discharged from the hospital.
