According to Thanh Nien , Mr. Nguyen Anh Vu (30 years old, a chef in Son Tra District, Da Nang ) is the creator of the above artwork. He is also a guest lecturer in the subject of Decorative and Pruning Arts at a school in Da Nang.
Having known the art of pruning for 6 years, he has been experimenting and pruning many works himself. Pruning roses is one of the basic contents that vegetable sculptors like him know.
Anh Vu cut the cylindrical block of raw material about 5-6 cm high and divided it into 5 petals, then drew the shape of the petals to cut along the drawn line. |

With this pumpkin rose handle, he applied a new method to make the petals thin and realistic. It only took him 5-7 minutes to complete the flower, but it took him 4-5 hours to complete the handle because he had to edit many details when creating the shape.
Cut the knife along the drawn line and the knife tip is about 45 degrees to the cylindrical surface. |

“To make the petals beautiful and smooth, the pruner must use a pruning knife with a good hand. To make roses, everyone needs to understand the principle of 3 steps. The first is to create the shape of the petal surface. The second is to prune the petals, whether they are thin, thick, big or small all depend on this step. The third step is to take the excess between each petal, this is the step to create the space between the petals. This step is repeated until the pistil is reached,” he said about the steps to make roses from pumpkin.
Mr. Vu shared that after pruning the rose branches and posting them on social media, he felt very happy to receive many compliments and positive comments. He believes that many people are interested in this art form, so he has more motivation to create more beautiful works.
Trim the petals with a knife, the thinner the knife, the more beautiful the flower. |

Once he has decided to trim the work, he chooses materials that match the shape and pose to make it easier to create and save materials. In addition, the artist needs to choose materials with contrasting colors to make the work stand out more.
