Phu Quoc is the first student from Quang Nam (since the province was separated) to participate in an international competition and win a gold medal.

"My emotions were overwhelming when my name was called during the closing ceremony. That moment made me truly happy because I hadn't let down my teachers, family, and friends," Quoc shared.

Phu Quoc is one of four students who won a gold medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad.

With his outstanding achievements at the International Chemistry Olympiad, many people probably assume that chemistry was Quoc's hobby and passion from the beginning. However, that's not the case. Chemistry was an interesting detour in the academic journey of this student from Quang Nam province.

Phu Quoc recounted: "Since I was little, I was a student specializing in English because that was my family's direction. But in 7th grade, while accidentally discovering chemistry experiments online, I felt truly fascinated and began to learn about chemistry."

After learning about chemistry, the male student felt that the subject was very close to life, helping him answer questions about the world around him. Therefore, at the end of 7th grade, Phu Quoc proactively applied to join the school's chemistry team.

"Although transferring to a specialized class at the junior high school wasn't easy, with determination, encouragement, and the trust of my chemistry team teacher at Kim Dong Junior High School (Hoi An City), and the support of my family, I decided to transfer. And perhaps that was the right decision, an interesting turning point in my academic journey," Quoc confided.

Because of his love and passion for chemistry, this student dedicates most of his time to studying it. For Quoc, chemistry is not just a subject that provides knowledge, but also a source of joy and excitement.

Phu Quoc also said that studying chemistry well isn't too difficult; it just requires the right study methods and a willingness to explore and research. "Each person will have their own study secrets. Self-study, research, and reflection are essential methods because that's when you transform learned knowledge into your own," Quoc said.

Sharing her future aspirations, Phu Quoc expressed: "I aspire to specialize in chemistry. For me, chemistry is my passion. I feel that studying chemistry is the right choice, so no matter how much pressure or stress I face, I will have the motivation to overcome it."

Ms. Van Phuong Trang (Quoc's mother) shared: "This path was chosen by Phu Quoc itself, so my son mostly knows how to chart his own course. Of course, there are times when pressure is unavoidable. At those times, Phu Quoc will open his heart to his family, and his family will always be a strong support for him."

Commenting on this outstanding student, Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang, the homeroom teacher, said: "Phu Quoc is a student with good aptitude and self-learning ability. He spends most of his time studying and researching chemistry on his own. Besides that, he also performs very well in other subjects."
