
According to the General Statistics Office, businesses have stepped up production to serve the export of goods, mining activities, and electricity production have been more active in recent months, which is the main reason why the industrial production index (IIP) in the third quarter of 2025 achieved double-digit growth.
In the first 9 months of 2025, IIP is estimated to increase by 9.1% over the same period last year, of which the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 10.4%, the highest increase since 2020.
At the same time, the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 6.1% (increased by 10.8% in the same period in 2024); the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment industry increased by 8.8% (increased by 9.7% in the same period in 2024); the mining industry increased by 0.1% (decreased by 6.9% in the same period in 2024).
Notably, the 9-month production index of some key secondary industries increased compared to the same period last year: Production of motor vehicles increased by 26%; production of rubber and plastic products increased by 17.3%; production of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 15.6%; production of garments increased by 13.5%; production of prefabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) increased by 12.7%; production of leather and related products increased by 12.5%; production of metal increased by 11.3%....
The General Statistics Office's report also shows that the industrial production index in the first 9 months of 2025 compared to the same period last year increased in all 34 localities.
Some key industrial products increased in the first 9 months compared to the same period last year, including: Automobiles increased by 52.7%; TVs increased by 21.8%; NPK mixed fertilizer increased by 15.9%; cement increased by 15.3%; rolled steel increased by 14.7%; casual clothes and leather shoes and sandals increased by 14.4%; aquatic feed increased by 14.2%; and sugar increased by 12.8%.
Meanwhile, some products decreased compared to the same period last year, including: Natural gas in gas form decreased by 8.3%; synthetic fiber textiles decreased by 2.4%; crude oil exploitation decreased by 1.1%.
In addition, the consumption index of the entire processing and manufacturing industry in September increased by 0.1% compared to the previous month and increased by 9.3% compared to the same period last year. In the first 9 months of 2025, the consumption index of the entire processing and manufacturing industry increased by 9.1% compared to the same period in 2024 (the same period in 2024 increased by 12.5%).
In addition, the inventory index of the entire processing and manufacturing industry as of September 30 is estimated to increase by 4.9% compared to the same period last month and increase by 13.3% compared to the same period last year (the same period last year increased by 8.5%). The average inventory ratio of the entire processing and manufacturing industry in the first 9 months of 2025 is 82.3% (the average in the same period in 2024 is 76.8%).
According to the General Statistics Office, the number of workers working in industrial enterprises as of September 1 increased by 1.2% compared to the same period last month and by 4.5% compared to the same period last year. Of which, the number of workers in the State-owned enterprise sector increased by 0.1% and 2.6%; non-State enterprises increased by 0.8% and 2.9%; and foreign-invested enterprises increased by 1.4% and 5.2%.
