With the message "Micronutrients are essential for the growth and development of physical strength, stature and intelligence, improving health and resistance of the body", Thanh Hoa City has deployed the Campaign to supplement Vitamin A for children from 6 to 60 months old and deworm children from 24 to 60 months old, phase 1, 2023 at commune and ward health stations in the area.
The campaign aims to strengthen the prevention and control of micronutrient deficiencies, especially Vitamin A, in children under 5 years old.
The campaign was deployed in communes and wards on June 6 and 7; organized drinking parties for children who did not participate on campaign days, ensuring no one was left out.
The work of drug distribution and preservation is focused on, avoiding drug shortages or drugs that do not ensure quality.
At drinking points, all facilities are fully equipped and the steps of reception, examination, classification and screening of children are properly and completely carried out.
To ensure the safety of the campaign, subjects coming to take Vitamin A are notified according to different time frames, divided reasonably, and avoid large crowds.
On the day of the campaign, Vitamin A supplement points also organized weighing and measuring to assess the nutritional status of children.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thien Trang, Ba Dinh Ward (Thanh Hoa City) shared: “Having a small child, I am also interested in learning about supplementing micronutrients for my child. When the medical staff informed me to take Vitamin A and weigh my child at the Ward Health Station, I arranged for my child to leave early to stay cool. In addition to supplementing Vitamin A according to regulations and recommendations, I also fully vaccinated my child to prevent diseases. At the same time, I also combine a nutritious diet according to the instructions of medical staff , helping my child develop healthily.”
According to Mr. Le Van Hung, Director of Thanh Hoa City Medical Center, with the goal of enhancing communication to raise people's awareness of preventing malnutrition and micronutrient deficiency; taking Vitamin A supplements to help eliminate blindness due to Vitamin A deficiency and support growth in children; completing targets on the number of children of the right age to be supplemented with Vitamin A, weighed and assessed for nutrition, and given deworming medicine, Thanh Hoa City has directed localities to develop detailed plans, ensuring sufficient medicine stock, hygiene and safety, and following the professional instructions of the Ministry of Health.
According to the plan, the first phase of the 2023 Vitamin A supplementation campaign for children from 6 to 60 months old and deworming for children from 24 to 60 months old in Thanh Hoa city will have over 95% of children from 6 to 60 months old and postpartum women within 1 month receiving Vitamin A as prescribed; strive for over 95% of children to be weighed and measured to assess the rate of malnutrition in children under 5 years old; 100% of children to be screened before taking Vitamin A.
