On August 28, the Korean Central News Agency ( KCNA ) reported that President Kim Jong-un inspected the test of an upgraded 240 mm rocket launcher system.
According to KCNA , the new system “demonstrated its superiority in maneuverability and concentrated attack capability” during the test.
Earlier this week, Kim Jong-un also inspected the testing of new “suicide drones” and watched them take off and destroy test targets, including a model tank.
The leader also called on North Korean researchers to develop artificial intelligence for UAVs, as well as produce more of these devices to enhance the country's combat readiness.
According to Yonhap news agency, Pentagon spokesman Major General Pat Ryder said the US wants to consider the threats from these suicide UAVs as "serious" and will closely monitor them.
“The United States will continue to consult closely with South Korea, Japan and other partners and allies in the region to ensure that our collective defense remains strong,” Ryder said at a press conference on August 27.
Responding to a question about how Washington would deal with “asymmetric” threats from Pyongyang, General Ryder stressed that the focus of US policy is defense and the country does not want conflict with North Korea.
