President Vo Van Thuong meets with outstanding female entrepreneurs.

Việt NamViệt Nam06/10/2023

To commemorate Vietnamese Entrepreneurs' Day on October 13th, the founding day of the Vietnam Women's Union on October 20th, and in anticipation of the 9th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Association of Women Entrepreneurs (October 19th), on the afternoon of October 5th, at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong met with outstanding female entrepreneurs from many provinces and cities across the country who are members of the Vietnam Association of Women Entrepreneurs (VAWE).

According to Labor Hero Thai Huong, President of VAWE, the Association currently has 33 Women Entrepreneurs Associations in 32 provinces and cities across the three regions of North, Central, and South Vietnam, with tens of thousands of female business owners as members, operating in all fields and industries, employing millions of workers, and contributing hundreds of thousands of billions of VND to the national budget. Many members have achieved great success and have been honored with prestigious titles and international awards such as: "Labor Hero of the Renovation Period", "Top 50 Most Powerful Asian Entrepreneurs " for many consecutive years, "Corporately Responsible Entrepreneur Award (Europe)"; Gold Award for Entrepreneur of the Year "Stevie Award"; Outstanding Vietnamese Entrepreneur, Outstanding Citizen... Many products of businesses owned by these women have achieved National Brand status.

Beyond the business world, VAWE's female entrepreneurs consistently uphold, promote, and build the image of the modern Vietnamese woman – the female entrepreneur – fulfilling her roles as a woman, mother, and wife in building a family, caring for the older generation, and raising the younger generation.

Ms. Thai Huong also stated that charitable activities and social welfare are always highly valued in the Association's work. Many shelters for the needy, schools, and bridges in flood-affected areas have been built; many children have had better opportunities to exercise their right to education. Within the Association, there are leading businesses that have implemented innovative models and research on nutrition and physical development for Vietnamese children. During the COVID-19 pandemic, women-owned businesses and the Association pioneered contributions to the COVID-19 vaccine fund, purchased ventilators and medical equipment, supported frontline workers, built "Zero-Cost Supermarkets," and helped disadvantaged workers and communities... worth thousands of billions of dong.

At the meeting, representatives of female entrepreneurs expressed their gratitude to the Party, the State, and relevant ministries and agencies for consistently resolving difficulties and making timely decisions for business development; and for always supporting and accompanying the Association's development journey and the sustainable development of women-owned businesses.

Speaking at the meeting, President Vo Van Thuong extended his best wishes to the delegates and female entrepreneurs nationwide. The President emphasized that after nearly 40 years of reform, under the leadership of the Party, the efforts of the entire political system and the whole people, our country has overcome many difficulties and challenges, achieving many great achievements of historical significance, making our country's foundation, position, and prestige unprecedented. In this overall achievement, the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Association and Vietnamese female entrepreneurs have made important, persistent, and impressive contributions. The President expressed his admiration, pride, and emotion for Vietnamese female entrepreneurs, who always have high determination, overcome the storms of the business world, and achieve many important accomplishments.

The President stated that the success and the path to success of Vietnamese female entrepreneurs is "a difficult road, not just a bed of roses, but very bumpy, winding, arduous, and requiring much effort." These stories also have a great inspirational impact on society and the younger generation who are starting their own businesses or aspire to become entrepreneurs. The President also acknowledged that, in addition to their business careers, these female entrepreneurs are always the pillars of their families, caring for the older generation and nurturing the younger generation, truly embodying the image of a Vietnamese woman who excels both in her professional life and in managing her household.

Reiterating the goal of Vietnam becoming a high-income developed country by 2045, President Vo Van Thuong pointed out that whether this goal is achieved depends in part on the important contributions of the business community, including female entrepreneurs. The Party and State leaders always listen to and improve the investment and business environment so that the business community can maximize its potential and contribute to society and the country.

With women making up 50% of Vietnam's population and approximately 50% of its workforce, the President believes that the 8,000 female entrepreneurs participating in VAWE do not fully reflect the potential of Vietnamese female entrepreneurs. Therefore, the President suggested that the Association expand its network to all 63 provinces and cities.

The President also expressed his hope that the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Association would be a place to "nurture and encourage the legitimate aspirations of women and female entrepreneurs to become wealthy"; to continue affirming the brand of Vietnamese goods through the Association's activities, especially forums, exchanges, and sharing of knowledge and experience in modern management, meeting the increasingly high demands of socio-economic life and business requirements at the regional and global levels. In particular, he hoped it would "strongly inspire the striving for success and encourage young men and women to become wealthy legitimately."

President Vo Van Thuong also urged female entrepreneurs to continue contributing ideas to reduce cumbersome administrative procedures, create a more favorable investment and business environment, and contribute to the development of national policies.
