On the afternoon of August 12, receiving Mr. Cristiano Amon, Chairman and CEO of Qualcomm Corporation (USA) and the Corporation's working delegation visiting and working in Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Qualcomm to continue to expand its in-depth investment in Vietnam, especially in core technologies.
At the meeting, reporting to the Prime Minister on the Group's operations in Vietnam, Qualcomm's Chairman expressed his hope for a bright future of development and great cooperation opportunities in Vietnam; believing that cooperation with Vietnam will continue to be successful.
Mr. Cristiano Amon highly appreciated Vietnam's policies related to science and technology development, innovation, digital transformation and the group's Vietnamese partners such as Viettel, VNPT,FPT ... have also grown rapidly.
Sharing about the group's activities and proposed cooperation plans in the Vietnamese market to develop strategic and innovative technology industries such as AI, semiconductors, IoT device manufacturing, electronics, and smartphones; thereby contributing to building a highly competitive Vietnamese economy, Qualcomm's Chairman believes that Vietnam will become a regional center for research and development, especially in AI.
Mr. Cristiano Amon affirmed that Qualcomm is ready to strengthen cooperation, support capacity building and human resource training for Vietnam.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged and highly appreciated Qualcomm for more than 20 years of accompanying the development of the telecommunications and technology industry in Vietnam, in key areas such as mobile connectivity, technology transfer, AI research, STEM training, startup support, promoting the innovation ecosystem, especially the establishment of the AI Research and Development Center in Hanoi.
In particular, the Prime Minister congratulated and highly appreciated the visit of the Chairman of Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and Qualcomm for signing a cooperation agreement towards establishing the VNPT-Qualcomm Center of Excellence.
Informing that Vietnam is continuing to innovate and reform strongly and drastically with high determination, the Prime Minister stated that Vietnam needs to focus on making the most of opportunities for rapid, breakthrough and sustainable development based on knowledge, science and technology, innovation and digital transformation to achieve a growth rate of 8.3-8.5% this year and double-digit growth in the coming years; valuing time, intelligence and making timely decisions.

To continue promoting stronger, more practical and effective cooperation between Vietnam and Qualcomm in the coming time, the Prime Minister suggested that the Group continue to expand its investment in depth in Vietnam, especially in core technologies and stages with higher added value in the semiconductor industry value chain; cooperate with enterprises, research institutes, universities and national innovation centers of Vietnam to develop an innovative startup ecosystem; support Vietnamese enterprises to participate more deeply in the supply and production chains of Qualcomm and its partners; support and share with Vietnam management experience, human resource training and institutional improvement.
According to the Prime Minister, Vietnam is continuing to implement many breakthrough solutions to facilitate and attract high-quality investment, promoting cooperation in these fields such as a temporary visa exemption policy for leading experts and scientists in the high-quality digital technology industry.
The Prime Minister believes that with Qualcomm's experience in cooperating with Vietnam in the past, the two sides will reap more success. The Vietnamese Government is committed to creating a favorable business environment for investors to operate profitably and effectively; in the spirit of working together, winning together, sharing joy and happiness; harmonizing benefits, sharing risks.
Qualcomm is a world leader in 5G advanced wireless and mobile communications technology with a market capitalization of approximately $160 billion , and is expanding its operations into the field of artificial intelligence at the edge (EDge AI).
Operating in Vietnam for over 20 years, Qualcomm has established the first Research and Development Center in Southeast Asia in Hanoi; has just acquired the generative AI company of VinAI/Vingroup and established the AI Research and Development Center in Hanoi - the group's third largest global AI center, after the United States and India.
Over the past 20 years, Qualcomm has implemented many cooperation programs to promote the technology ecosystem and innovation in Vietnam. Typically, Qualcomm Vietnam Innovation Challenge (QVIC) has supported the incubation of 29 technology startups, helped raise more than 32 million USD in capital, commercialized 25 products and registered 87 patents; coordinated with Viettel and VNPT to develop technology and equipment for 5G and WiFi.
