The stock market this morning (December 27) had a tug-of-war. The index representing the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange hovered around the reference level after more than 2 hours of trading.

By the end of the session, all three exchanges had more than 400 stocks falling in price and 27 stocks hitting the floor, while 261 stocks increased in price and 36 stocks hit the ceiling.

Although the number of adjusted stocks was somewhat overwhelming, thanks to the good growth of the banking pillar stocks, the index still inched up slightly by 1 point, to the 1,274 point area when the clock stopped at 11:30.

In the top 10 stocks with the greatest influence on the VN-Index, banks contributed to 8 codes, including: LPB of LPBank (+6.38%), VCB of Vietcombank (+0.33%), TCB of Techcombank (+0.6%), BID of BIDV (+0.6%), TPB of TPBank (+1.8%), MBB of MBBank (+0.6%), EIB of Eximbank (+1.8%), MSB of Vietnam Maritime Bank (+1.7%).

On the contrary, the decrease in points of FPT (-0.5%), Mobile World's MWG (-1.14%), Hoa Phat's HPG (-0.37%), Becamex's BCM (-0.8%), Hoang Anh Gia Lai's HAG (-2.4%), Viettel Post's VTP (-2.6%), Saigon VRG Investment's SIP (-2%), Phat Dat Real Estate's PDR (-0.9%), Sabeco's SAB (-0.3%), Khang Dien House's KDH (-0.5%)... pulled down the index.

Notable in the VN30 group is the development of MWG code of Mobile World Joint Stock Company when entering the second adjustment session after information about the "chemical price-holding" incident in Dak Lak.

After the morning session of December 27, MWG's market price lost another 1.14%, to the 60,800 VND area. On December 26, this stock reversed and decreased by 1.13% after many consecutive sessions of increase. However, the buying power of this retail giant's stock is still good, with more than 324,000 units remaining for purchase, much higher than the remaining amount for sale of more than 180,000 units.

MWG shares fell in the context of Bach Hoa Xanh - a food supermarket chain of Mobile World, which was involved in a case of illegal substances being caught red-handed at a production facility in Dak Lak.

Yesterday afternoon (December 26), Bach Hoa Xanh confirmed that it had immediately recalled and stopped selling all goods from supplier Lam Dao, and at the same time re-tested all products currently supplied to the chain.

This unit is also working closely with the authorities to clarify the above incident, and at the same time affirms that all products imported into the chain must provide full legal documents as required.

According to a report from MWG, at the end of November this year, there were a total of 1,735 stores nationwide. MWG's Q3-2024 business results report shows that the Bach Hoa Xanh chain is contributing more than 30% to the total revenue of this unit. If divided by product structure, fresh food and fast-moving consumer goods account for 30.4% of MWG's total revenue.

In a development related to this chain, in April this year, MWG announced that it had completed the transaction of offering 5% of Bach Hoa Xanh's individual shares to CDH Investments - a company from China, headquartered in Beijing.

Cash flow into stocks "drips" more at year-end

According to SSI Securities, the value of matched transactions on the HOSE floor in November dropped to the lowest level since the beginning of the year, only 12,200 billion VND/session.

Liquidity levels have narrowed due to investor sentiment being cautious about unpredictable external risk variables and waiting for new factors to support sustainable market growth, according to SSI.

Also according to SSI, the cash flow trend is leaning towards the mid- and small-cap group amid sluggish liquidity. Meanwhile, the trading proportion in the VN30 group has decreased, mainly due to narrowing transactions in the banking stock group.
