Mainoo hasn't had many opportunities to play for Manchester United since the start of the 2025/26 season. The young midfielder was also not called up by coach Thomas Tuchel to the England squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September. However, Mainoo didn't waste the international break, using it to improve his fitness and strengthen his resolve to prove himself.
In a video shared on social media, Mainoo and his personal trainer Jonas Dodoo diligently practiced sprinting exercises for over an hour. His toned physique and developed muscles show a noticeable change in the 20-year-old player. Manchester United fans were impressed by the young talent's focus and desire to improve himself.
Previously, Mainoo had hoped to leave Old Trafford on loan to find more playing opportunities, with Napoli – where Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund were already present – being rumored as his destination. However, the deal fell through, and he was forced to continue fighting under manager Ruben Amorim.
In reality, Mainoo has yet to make an impact. He wasn't used in the defeat against Arsenal and the draw against Fulham, and has only played 45 minutes in the Premier League in the 3-2 win against Burnley. His only full 90-minute appearance was in the humiliating defeat against fourth-tier side Grimsby in the Carabao Cup – a bittersweet memory.
Mainoo's path back to the Manchester United starting lineup is certainly fraught with challenges. But with his professional attitude and diligent training, the young midfielder is proving he is ready to wait for his opportunity to prove his worth at Old Trafford.
