Instead of the traditional teaching method, Ms. Lam Thi Thu Thao (homeroom teacher of class 3/6 at Chinh Nghia Primary School, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) composed multiplication tables on rap music for students.
"Quick to learn, long to remember"
Ms. Lam Thi Thu Thao said that to help students memorize the multiplication table, she incorporates rap music into the lesson, creating a rhythm that helps students remember easily, and the classroom atmosphere is also lively and enthusiastic.
"The students responded very positively, they even moved to the beat and read fluently. Parents also asked for the songs to let their children listen to and sing at home.
I have completed the multiplication tables of 2, 3, 4 and 5. In the near future, I will continue to complete other tables faster so that parents can review them with their children," said Ms. Thao.
Student Nguyen Lam Gia Phu shared: "Ms. Thao has a new and fun way of teaching. These rap songs are good and I really like them, they help me remember the lessons more easily. Learning like this is very comfortable, like studying and playing at the same time."
"Learning multiplication tables by rapping, I quickly learned the lesson and remembered it for a long time. I can apply it to multiplication and division very quickly. In class, I often rap the multiplication table with my friends and it's very fun" - Thai Tran Minh Vy bragged.

"When I take my child out on the street, I hear him happily singing, and when I ask, I find out that it is Ms. Thao's multiplication table. I find this way of teaching new, interesting and fun. Learning this way, the children will not be bored, they will be comfortable learning the multiplication table, thanks to the melody of the song that the child likes, it helps the child remember the lesson easier and remember it longer" - parent Truong Le Linh shared.
Making animations for teaching
In addition to math, Ms. Thao also makes some animated films to support teaching Vietnamese, nature and society.
"For Vietnamese storytelling, I organize games and create animated videos for teaching. I also design reading sheets to help students become more interested in extensive reading.
As for natural and social subjects, when the knowledge is difficult and the videos on the internet are too broad and unsuitable, I will make my own cartoons for the students to study and compose rap songs for them to understand easily.
"I often take advantage of recess and rest time to prepare lessons for the students. Through tools such as Canva (designing teaching products), Inshot (making videos) and Procreate (illustrating when needed), I create many lessons suitable for my students" - Ms. Thao confided.
The young teacher also built a padlet page (online tool) to support homeroom teachers completely free of charge with the hope of helping teachers save time preparing lessons, teaching materials...
