Two new regulations have been introduced by tourism groups, including: Tourists must carry 700 USD or 15 million VND in cash, or equivalent amounts in other foreign currencies, to prove they are traveling for tourism; and there is a limit on the number of entries per year. Additionally, the information advises tourists traveling to Thailand to dress respectfully to avoid being mistaken for traveling for purposes other than tourism.
The information also indicates that many groups of tourists were detained at the airport upon entering Thailand for checks on the amount of money they were carrying.

This information has caused a stir among Vietnamese tour guides and tourism professionals. However, regarding the amount of cash allowed upon entering Thailand, the country's immigration law has long established regulations. Specifically, foreigners with tourist visas or non-immigrant visas must demonstrate sufficient funds equivalent to at least 20,000 baht per person (approximately 700 USD) or 40,000 baht per family (approximately 1,400 USD) upon entry.
To facilitate foreign tourists, Thai immigration officers conduct random checks on foreign visitors upon arrival at all ports of entry. If a tourist cannot demonstrate sufficient funds, officers will consider each case individually to determine whether or not to allow entry. Random checks will not occur after a tourist has been granted entry and has passed through immigration checkpoints.
Regarding information about restrictions on multiple entries into Thailand, in an exchange with Thanh Nien newspaper, the head of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in Ho Chi Minh City stated: Currently, Thailand has not issued any new announcements regarding restrictions on the number of entries for tourists. "Some tourists entering Thailand may be checked or denied entry because their names match Thailand's suspected list in the system, or because they have engaged in suspicious behavior. Customs follows the prescribed procedures, just like all customs authorities worldwide ," the TAT representative said.
Following the pandemic, Vietnamese tourists consistently ranked among the top 10 markets for Thai visitors, followed by Malaysia, China, India, Russia, South Korea, Vietnam, the United States, the United Kingdom, Laos, and Hong Kong. According to TAT, in the first half of 2023, approximately 500,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Thailand.
In 2019, the total number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Thailand was 1 million, and it is predicted that this year, Vietnamese tourism to Thailand will recover to 100% of pre-pandemic levels.
