Vietnamese billiards player Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi staged a spectacular comeback to secure a place in the semi-finals of the 2024 Women's World Championship 3-Cushion Carom Billiards.
In the quarter-final match of the 2024 Women's 3-Cushion Carom Billiards World Championship, held on the evening of September 11th in Blois, France, Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi faced Jackeline Perez from Peru. The Vietnamese player used the white ball and had the opening serve. However, Perez maintained the initiative for most of the match. The Peruvian player consistently scored points with accurate shots and continuously led Yen Nhi. After the first 7 innings, Perez had a 6-point lead, 10-4. The gap widened to 10 points after 10 innings, with the Peruvian player having 14 points, while Yen Nhi remained stuck at 4 points after many unsuccessful shots. In the second half, Perez unexpectedly lost his rhythm. In the next 17 turns (from 14 to 30), the Peruvian player only scored a meager 5 points against Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi's rather tight defense. This was also an opportunity for the Vietnamese player to narrow the gap. The difference was reduced to just 1 point after 32 turns, with Perez leading 20-19. In the final turns, Perez woke up and held a significant advantage to win, leading 20-25, then 29-20 (after 39 turns). Although only 1 point away from a semi-final spot, Perez could not finish the game, partly due to bad luck. Conversely, Yen Nhi added a series of 4 and 3 points to reach 27 points. The score was leveled at 29-29 after 45 turns.
After 48 innings, Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi staged an incredible comeback to win 30-29 against Perez, securing her place in the semi-finals of the 2024 Women's 3-Cushion Carom Billiards World Championship. In the semi-finals, the Vietnamese player will face Charlotte Soerensen (Denmark) at 4 PM today (September 12th, Vietnam time).
