Traffic police will manage dash cams in car cabins

(NLDO)- Traffic police are assigned to manage the data management system of journey monitoring devices and driver image recording devices.

On January 4, information from the Traffic Police Department (Traffic Police, Ministry of Public Security ) said that from January 1, 2025, the Traffic Police force will be assigned to manage, operate, and use the data management system for journey monitoring devices (journey monitoring cameras) and driver image recording devices (in-cabin cameras). This content is based on the Law on Road Traffic Safety and Order, Resolution 141/2024/ND-CP of the Government, Circular 71/2024/TT-BCA of the Ministry of Public Security.

According to regulations, journey monitoring devices are installed on commercial transport vehicles, tractors, ambulances, and road traffic rescue vehicles.

The device that records the driver's image is installed on passenger cars with 8 seats or more used for transport business (not including the driver's seat), tractor-trailers, ambulances, and road traffic rescue vehicles.

"This is to serve the work of ensuring security, order, road traffic safety and handling violations, and state management of road transport" - the representative of the Traffic Police clearly stated and added that the data will also be connected and shared with the Ministry of Transport (Vietnam Road Administration), the Department of Transport of provinces and centrally run cities and relevant agencies according to the provisions of law.

To implement the above regulations, the Traffic Police Department requests units and service providers of data transmission of journey monitoring devices and driver image recording devices to coordinate in connecting, integrating, testing and transmitting data of journey monitoring devices and driver image recording devices to the Traffic Police Department.

Regarding time, registration for integration testing schedule, integration testing, and data transmission on real environment must be completed before January 25. The Traffic Police Department also assigned the technical department to guide units to complete the above content.

Previously, in Circular No. 73/2024, the Ministry of Public Security stipulated that traffic police units are allowed to exploit data from journey monitoring devices, driver image recording devices, and databases on road traffic order and safety to control, detect and handle violations of laws on road traffic order and safety.
