Mr. Nguyen Tu Son, former Director of the Gia Lai Department of Education and Training, was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended, for "lack of responsibility causing serious consequences" related to software procurement violations.

On April 22, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance trial and sentenced defendant Nguyen Tu Son (63 years old, former Director of the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai Province) to 12 months in prison, suspended, for the crime of "lack of responsibility causing serious consequences".

At the same time, defendant Truong Quy Suu (52 years old, former Head of Finance - Planning Department, Gia Lai Department of Education and Training) was sentenced to 15 months in prison for "violating regulations on management and use of state assets, causing loss and waste".

The two defendants Son and Suu caused a loss of more than 400 million VND in the project to purchase digital equipment and software at this department.

Violations in the project of purchasing equipment and software at the Department of Education and Training have been reported many times by SGGP Newspaper. Accordingly, from 2015 to 2021, the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province was assigned to be the investor of 13 software purchasing projects and the extension of 2 software with a total cost of 33 billion VND. However, through inspection, it was determined that this investment and purchasing had violations with an amount of billions of VND, causing loss and waste of the state budget. In addition, some software has not been used and has not been used effectively.
