Previously, at 6:20 p.m., Nguyen Quang Cong, captain of the Khanh Minh 09 transport ship, informed: The ship was on its way to Gianh port when it discovered a person drifting and rescued him safely onto the ship. It is known that these are fishermen Nguyen Van Nhan (born in 1980) and Nguyen Duc Thuan (born in 1981), both residing in Tan My residential group, Bac Gianh ward, Quang Tri province, who went out to sea on a small boat to cast a net, then the boat took on water and gradually sank. Nhan was discovered and rescued by a cargo ship, while fisherman Nguyen Duc Thuan was clinging to the drifting boat, requesting the unit to assist in search and rescue.

Upon receiving the information, Gianh Port Border Guard Station reported to the Provincial Border Guard Command and mobilized local forces (fishing boats of fishermen were anchored) to respond and notify local authorities and relevant units.
