Da Nang: Many cultural events and festivals

(To Quoc) - In 2024, many national and international cultural and sports events and festivals were successfully organized, attracting the attention and support of the people and tourists, contributing to promoting the image of the city and the country, and further affirming the brand of Da Nang - the city of events and festivals.

On the afternoon of December 30th, the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City held a conference to implement cultural and sports activities for 2025.

According to the Da Nang Department of Culture and Tourism, in 2024, with the attention and guidance of the city's leaders and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the support and coordination of various departments, agencies, and localities, the Da Nang Department of Culture and Tourism focused on implementing solutions to achieve the theme "Promoting administrative reform, strengthening discipline and order, continuing to unlock investment resources, boosting economic growth and ensuring social security," successfully completing assigned tasks. The activities of the culture and tourism sector have seen significant improvements, gradually meeting the city's development requirements in the new phase.

In 2024, the Da Nang Department of Culture and Tourism successfully organized many major events, including: a series of cultural activities and festivals on both banks of the Han River; the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival; the 2nd Da Nang Asian Film Festival; the Da Nang International Marathon; the VINFAST IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam, SUNRISE SPRINT and IRONKIDS competitions; the Vietnam-Brazil Football Festival; the 13th Southeast Asian School Games; the Da Nang Traditional Boat Race - VTV8 Cup; a series of activities commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of musician Phan Huynh Dieu; and the Conference to commend and reward outstanding cultural villages/residential areas of the city…

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairperson of the Da Nang City People's Committee, delivered a speech at the conference.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi said that the achievements of the Culture and Sports sector in 2024 have made an important contribution to building cultural and sports life, contributing to the socio-economic development of the city, building people who are intellectually, physically and spiritually developed, aiming for sustainable social development, and making an important contribution to the successful implementation of the city's socio-economic development tasks in 2024.

In particular, many cultural and artistic events and festivals of national and international significance have been successfully organized, attracting the attention and support of the people and tourists, promoting the image of the city and the country, and further affirming the brand of Da Nang - the city of events and festivals.

"The city highly appreciates the determination, consensus, and efforts of the officials, employees, and workers of the Department of Culture and Tourism, and commends the achievements that the entire sector has made in 2024," Ms. Thi said.

The Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee acknowledged that, alongside the achievements, the Culture and Sports sector still has some shortcomings and limitations. To overcome these, the Department of Culture and Sports needs to have specific plans in its advisory work, conduct thorough assessments, and propose new solutions and directions, maximizing proactiveness and creativity, and leveraging timely support from departments, agencies, and organizations, as well as consensus throughout the sector, in order to overcome existing shortcomings and limitations and better fulfill the tasks assigned by the City People's Committee in 2025.

Pham Tan Xu, Director of the Da Nang City Department of Culture and Sports, delivered a speech at the conference.

According to Pham Tan Xu, Director of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Da Nang City, the achievements of the sector have contributed to nurturing and spreading spiritual life, limiting negative phenomena and social evils; contributing to the economic development of the city, including tourism - one of the sectors that plays an important role in connecting with culture; gradually building the city's people to be intellectually developed, physically strong, spiritually rich, and oriented towards sustainable social development.

The Director of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Da Nang City shared that in the coming time, the department will continue to advise the City People's Committee to successfully complete the assigned tasks in the work program; the socio-economic targets and plans; and continue to review and effectively implement approved projects, plans, and programs.

In addition, emphasis should be placed on innovating the development of literature and art; developing the cultural industry, focusing on reorienting potential cultural fields and support mechanisms; and researching and advising on specific policies and mechanisms in the field of organizing festivals and events to create an attractive environment, contributing to the realization of the city's development orientation as a "City of Events".

Furthermore, we will coordinate with various sectors and localities in building a cultural environment and focusing on developing grassroots cultural life, contributing to building a peaceful, civilized, and modern city. We will pay attention to developing mass sports, searching for new talents for high-performance sports; and continue to advise the city on investing in high-performance sports.

"Each subordinate unit undertakes a mission in advising the Department on implementing content and events with strong impact, creating a brand for the Culture and Tourism sector, truly attracting the people of the city and friends and tourists to experience a peaceful, friendly, and civilized Da Nang - to feel the 'soft' power of culture. 2025 is also the year to focus the spiritual and material resources of the entire sector to coordinate effectively with agencies, units, and localities to organize events to celebrate major holidays," Mr. Xu shared.

On behalf of the President of Vietnam, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi presented the Third-Class Labor Medal to the Da Nang Museum.

The Da Nang Department of Culture and Tourism has set out nine tasks for 2025 as goals to strive for:

1. Effectively implement the resolutions and policies of the Central Government and the city on the development of culture and sports.

• 2. Focus on implementing the plan to organize activities commemorating major holidays in 2025. Continue implementing the "Project to organize unique cultural events and festivals associated with establishing a series of nighttime cultural and festival events in Da Nang City" to improve the quality of cultural and artistic activities.
• 3. Diversify both amateur and professional artistic activities; focusing on staging new, high-quality artistic programs and performances. Organize activities serving industrial zones, schools, and residential areas; support the activities of cultural and artistic associations and clubs in the city; and hold regular artistic programs for the public and tourists at the Trung Vuong Theater and the Nguyen Hien Dinh Traditional Opera Theater.
• 4. Focus investment on restoration and preservation, ensuring the progress of projects to restore and preserve the Dien Hai Citadel (phase 2); the Da Nang Museum project ; the City's Cultural and Film Center project; and the Cham Sculpture Museum project (facility 2) . Continue implementing the Project on Developing the System of Cultural and Sports Facilities at the grassroots level in the city until 2025 and the Guidelines on the management, organization, and operation of community centers in residential areas of Da Nang City.
• 5. Implement the city's "5 No's," "3 Yes's," and "4 Safeties" program, linked with Directive 43 of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee on urban culture and civilization; the program implementing the "All People Unite to Build a Culturally Rich Life" movement and the "Building a Culturally and Civilized Urban Lifestyle" project in the city. Research methods and approaches to strictly implement the City People's Committee Chairman's Directive on rectifying and strengthening the effectiveness of managing advertising and classifieds activities; and regulations on implementing civilized lifestyles in weddings, funerals, and festivals.
• 6. Continue to advise, implement, and organize the 10th Da Nang City Sports Festival at all levels to prepare the necessary conditions for participation in the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City, striving to be among the leading units; contributing many athletes to the national team participating in international sports competitions and the 33rd SEA Games.
• 7. Continue implementing the Da Nang City High-Performance Sports Development Strategy for the period 2021-2030; report and evaluate the results of implementing the Da Nang City Sports Development Plan for the period 2021-2025 and develop a plan for the next phase.

• 8. Continue implementing the Project "Developing Mass Sports with the aim of improving the health and physical condition of the people of Da Nang City in the period 2022-2030, with a vision to 2045". Continue implementing the Project on developing marine sports, focusing investment on marine sports in which Da Nang has strengths; establish and stabilize the operation of marine sports clubs. Promote the socialization of cultural and sports activities; encourage and support human resources and professional expertise for sports associations, federations, organizations, individuals, and businesses to organize mass sports competitions.
• 9. Continue implementing the Project on the Use of Public Assets to maximize the utilization of the sector's premises and facilities, and coordinate with relevant units to organize cultural, artistic, and sports activities effectively. Strengthen state management, guidance, inspection, and supervision of cultural activities, festivals, and cultural and sports services.
