Dak Lak: Proposing a "fast priority" mechanism for durian exports

The Dak Lak Province Durian Association has just sent an urgent dispatch to the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, and the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, proposing to remove difficulties in durian consumption and export in the 2025 crop year.

According to the petition, from October 11, 2025 to now, the designated laboratories serving chemical residue testing (such as cadmium, yellow O...) for exported durian products have simultaneously suspended operations for system maintenance and upgrade.

This happened right at the time when Dak Lak province was in the peak durian harvest season, which is expected to last 20-30 days more.

The Dak Lak Durian Association recommends that there should be a "fast priority" mechanism for testing samples of exported durian during peak times.

The suspension of testing laboratories has caused a series of serious consequences. Specifically, businesses cannot complete testing procedures and issue certificates for export shipments according to regulations, causing nearly 2,000 durian containers to be stuck in factory warehouses, on the way of transportation and at border gates.

Due to the output bottleneck, businesses have been forced to temporarily stop purchasing, causing the price of durian in the market to drop sharply. Many farmers do not dare to cut their gardens, leading to the risk of thousands of tons of ripe durian falling off and spoiling right in the garden.

This situation is causing huge economic losses for both businesses and people due to the high costs of storage, transportation, and refrigeration. At the same time, it causes direct damage from lost output, lost markets, and damaged export reputation of Vietnamese durian. This is a "particularly urgent" issue that, if not handled promptly, will cause disruptions in the supply chain, destabilize the market, and threaten the entire durian industry value chain.

Faced with the above urgent situation, the Dak Lak Durian Association recommends that the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee consider and direct four main contents.

Specifically, urgently direct accredited laboratories to resume operations soon, especially prioritizing support for the Central Highlands - Dak Lak region in the final stage of the season; establish a "fast-track" mechanism for durian export testing samples during peak times; consider temporarily authorizing qualified local testing units (assessed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) to maintain the continuity of the production - consumption - export chain; departments and branches coordinate with the Association to review, count damages and issue timely support policies for heavily affected businesses, cooperatives and people.
