During a regular press conference at the Ho Chi Minh City Press Center on the afternoon of May 23, Mr. Trang Thanh Phuong, deputy head of the arts department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports , provided information about the incident involving Dam Vinh Hung wearing an unusual badge while performing.

Enhancing a sense of responsibility and political awareness.

Mr. Trang Thanh Phuong stated that in order to clarify the issues raised by the press and the explanations provided by relevant organizations and individuals, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports organized a meeting to gather opinions from specialized agencies on the matter.

Representatives from various agencies and units commented that the use of stylized costumes in the style of foreign armies and accessories featuring medals and decorations by singer Dam Vinh Hung was inappropriate for the content of the performances and the overall program.

It is also inconsistent with Vietnamese cultural values, easily evokes sensitive political issues, causes offense, and creates negative public opinion, especially during a time when the whole country is preparing to celebrate important political events.

At the same time, information gathered from news agencies, social media sites, and numerous shares and comments has criticized the fact that a person with public influence chose inappropriate attire, causing a negative impact on public opinion and society.

Furthermore, many opinions from cultural activists, National Assembly representatives, managers, veteran officials, and former soldiers clearly indicate the offensive nature of the performances at the program; they request that relevant authorities pay attention and handle the matter in accordance with the law, contributing to building a healthy cultural environment.

"Based on analysis, assessment, and relevant information gathered, and in comparison with the code of conduct for artists issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and other legal regulations, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports will propose measures for appropriate consideration and handling by the competent authorities," Mr. Trang Thanh Phuong emphasized.

Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports invited relevant organizations and individuals, including Tieng Hat Viet Co., Ltd., singer Dam Vinh Hung, and the designer, to a discussion and recorded their feedback in a written report.

The Department also reminded and requested the Vietnamese Singing Company and individuals participating in performances and artistic creations to further enhance their sense of responsibility and political awareness; pay attention to costumes and presentation styles, avoiding causing offense and negative impacts on public opinion and society in the future.

Previously, on several forums, many viewers debated the badges that Dam Vinh Hung wore on his performance costumes during the Dam Vinh Hung live concert 2024 with the theme " The Day You Light Up the Stars," which took place on the evening of May 4-5.

Some argue that the insignia "mimic the Special Forces Medal" - a type of medal from the old regime before 1975.

The online uproar prompted singer Dam Vinh Hung to respond on his personal page on the afternoon of May 6th.

Dam Vinh Hung asserted that the badges were just normal accessories, decorative in nature, to make the outfit more eye-catching for the audience, and had no hidden meaning as netizens claimed.

The inscriptions on the badges read: High Quality Garment , meaning high-quality garment manufacturing; Bad Guy , meaning a bad guy; The Love Moschino Walk, referring to Italian fashion…

Some readers translated the phrase "Marine Semper fi" as "Marine Corps Semper Fidelis ," which translates to "The U.S. Marine Corps is always loyal."

Later, Dam Vinh Hung apologized to the audience on social media.
