On December 9th, the Communist Party of Uruguay (PCU) held a ceremony to launch the Collected Works of President Ho Chi Minh, aiming to honor the intellectual legacy and international solidarity of President Ho Chi Minh, as well as the historical bond between the people of the two countries in their struggle for peace , national independence, and socialism.

According to the VNA correspondent in South America, attending the launch ceremony were PCU Central Committee member Juan Bernassa, and Secretary of the Uruguayan Communist Youth League (UJC), Natalia Díaz, along with numerous party members.

In its introduction to the publication, PCU emphasizes that the 20th century was a period of great challenges for nations, from the fight against fascism and imperialism to the efforts to build new social models.

According to the PCU, President Ho Chi Minh was one of the leaders who helped shape that era with his intellect, courage, and ability to connect national liberation movements on a global scale.

This collection comprises writings by President Ho Chi Minh from nearly 50 years of his revolutionary activity, reflecting his process of learning, struggling, and developing his thoughts on national independence, building revolutionary forces, international solidarity, and building a new society.

PCU stated that these documents not only hold historical value but also "illuminate" the current progressive movement, as they demonstrate humility, courage, and profound respect for the people—core elements that make a true revolutionary.

In the context of the current world , PCU believes that publishing this anthology is an act of tribute to an outstanding leader and a message of hope for even closer ties between the people of the two countries.

"We respectfully bow our heads before a true hero of our time, an exemplary internationalist, and a shining example in the struggle for freedom and dignity of peoples," the introduction stated.

Speaking at the launch, PCU Central Committee member Juan Bernassa affirmed that the political, theoretical, and organizational ideas presented in the collection remain relevant in a world facing poverty, unemployment, inequality, and environmental crises. President Ho Chi Minh's legacy continues to be a guiding light for those fighting for social justice.

Meanwhile, UJC Secretary Natalia Díaz emphasized that the publication also recalled the special connection between Ho Chi Minh and Uruguay, including the memory of him working on an ocean liner that visited Montevideo in 1920. She also noted that many of Ho Chi Minh's works, along with writings by General Secretary Le Duan and General Vo Nguyen Giap, were used as secret study materials during Uruguay's period of dictatorial rule (1973-1984), contributing to the development of the spirit and will of today's young communist generation.

Notably, the final section of the nearly 260-page book also contains many valuable photographic documents, vividly reflecting the Uruguay-Vietnam solidarity in the 1960s. These include numerous rallies and marches in Montevideo protesting the US war of aggression in Vietnam, such as the marches organized by the Uruguayan Youth Trade Union Committee demanding the withdrawal of US troops in March 1965; and images of large crowds of Uruguayan citizens attending the "Vietnam Night" event on March 26, 1968, in the square in front of the Montevideo City Council headquarters. All the photographs were taken by reporters from El Popular, the official newspaper of the PCU.

The book also published the PCU Central Executive Committee's statement on the front page of El Popular on September 5, 1969, expressing "profound emotion" at the passing of President Ho Chi Minh and affirming that he was "a sublime symbol of the national liberation struggle and proletarian internationalism."

The statement emphasized the Uruguayan people's commitment to continuing their support for Vietnam until the final victory in its struggle against foreign invaders.

In addition, the book also includes an account of the memorial service for President Ho Chi Minh organized by the PCU on September 5, 1969, in Montevideo, an event that attracted a large number of people and left-wing intellectuals.

According to PCU, the publication of the Ho Chi Minh anthology, with 500 volumes, is not only a tribute to an outstanding leader, but also a symbol of international solidarity and warm affection for the Vietnamese people, contributing to expanding the friendly relations between the two nations.

The launch of the Ho Chi Minh Collected Works coincides with the PCU's preparations for its 33rd National Congress, which will take place from December 12-14, under the slogan "The path towards the happiness of the masses."

The PCU affirmed that the Congress would be a forum to strengthen socio-political solidarity, protect peace, condemn imperialism, support the Palestinian people, and promote the role of left-wing forces in a volatile international context.
