North Korea has decided to convene a plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) in early June.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on May 29 that the decision to hold the 8th plenary session of the 8th Central Committee was made to review "the implementation of national economic plans for the first half of 2023 and discuss policy issues of great significance."
North Korea holding a plenary meeting twice in the first half of the year appears to be unprecedented, as Pyongyang typically convenes this type of meeting only once or twice a year.
Last February, the WPK held a central conference to focus on discussing the country's agricultural issues.
North Korea appears to be facing many economic difficulties as the country is constrained by international sanctions due to its nuclear and missile programs as well as prolonged blockade measures to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic./.
