The Department of Preventive Medicine recommends that people actively and proactively prevent conjunctivitis as follows:
Conjunctivitis, or pink eye, is an eye infection, usually caused by bacteria or viruses, or an allergic reaction, with the characteristic symptom being redness of the eye.
The disease usually starts suddenly, initially in one eye and then spreading to the other. Conjunctivitis is very easy to contract, spreads easily in the community, and can cause epidemics.
To date, there is no vaccine to prevent the disease, no specific treatment, and people who have had conjunctivitis can still be reinfected just a few months after recovering.
Although conjunctivitis is an acute disease with pronounced symptoms and is highly contagious, it is usually benign and rarely leaves lasting effects. However, it often significantly impacts daily life, studies, and work, and in many cases, the disease is prolonged, causing complications that affect vision later on. Therefore, people need to be aware of good preventive measures and seek timely treatment when infected.
To proactively prevent and control conjunctivitis, the Ministry of Health recommends that people regularly wash their hands with soap and clean water; and avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth with their hands.
Do not share personal items such as: eye drops, face towels, eyeglasses, face masks, etc.
Clean your eyes, nose, and throat daily with saline solution and common eye drops or nasal drops;
Use soap or common disinfectants to sanitize the patient's belongings and items;
Limit contact with people who are sick or suspected of having conjunctivitis; people who are sick or suspected of having conjunctivitis should limit contact with others and go to a medical facility for timely examination, consultation, and treatment. Do not self-treat without guidance from a healthcare professional.
