'Red mark' of Liberation News Agency in Lo Go - Xa Mat forest

Hidden in the middle of the Chang Riec forest in Lo Go - Xa Mat National Park (Tan Bien commune, Tay Ninh province), the Liberation News Agency (LPA) Memorial Stele is a testament to a heroic historical period as well as the steadfast, silent contributions of journalists in general and the LPA in particular.

15 years of perseverance

More than half a century ago, in the middle of the Tay Ninh jungle, VNA - the frontline agency of Vietnam News Agency (now Vietnam News Agency), steadfastly existed, carrying out its information and propaganda tasks for 15 years (from October 12, 1960 to April 30, 1975).

On October 12, 1960, when the first news bulletin of the Liberation News Agency (abbreviated as VNA) was broadcast from the Chang Riệc forest, VNA officially announced its birth to the Vietnamese people and the world . As the official mouthpiece of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, VNA became a particularly important link on the ideological front, contributing to the overall victory of the entire nation.

Amidst the countless dangers of enemy bombs and bullets, the reporters, editors, and technicians of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) held their ground while moving flexibly to promptly gather, process, and broadcast news from the Southern battlefield. Beyond reporting news, the VNA also transferred important documents and materials of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam to the Vietnam News Agency, from where they were disseminated to the world, contributing to spreading the righteousness of our national liberation struggle.

Many officers and reporters of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) bravely sacrificed their lives while on duty. To commemorate and honor these great contributions and sacrifices, in September 2000, the Southern Regional Office of the Vietnam News Agency built a memorial monument for the VNA at its former base, in the heart of Lo Go - Xa Mat National Park.

The memorial plaque is solemnly inscribed with 16 golden words bestowed by the Central Committee of the Southern Region: "Diligence, courage, self-reliance, overcoming difficulties, fulfilling the mission." This serves as a reminder of the indomitable spirit, resilience, and unwavering loyalty of the war correspondents of the past.

A destination to learn about history.

Having had the opportunity to visit and stand before the memorial monument in the forest, journalist Nguyen Thi Duc Hanh (Vietnam News Agency, Tay Ninh province) was moved: “There were days when every news item and photograph sent had to be paid for with blood. The previous generation of journalists in general, and the predecessors of the Vietnam News Agency in particular, delivered news of victory through bombs and bullets to the people. That is something that the younger generation like us is always grateful for and proud of.”

Today, the TTXGP Memorial is a deeply moving destination for delegations, veterans, young journalists, and tourists from near and far. Here, every step under the forest canopy reminds visitors of the story of those who transformed the deep forest into a "newspaper office," holding their pens and cameras firmly amidst bombs and bullets to keep the flow of information uninterrupted.

The memorial plaque for the Liberation News Agency, along with the memorial plaque for the Liberation Radio Station, the memorial stone for the Liberation Newspaper Agency, the memorial plaque for the Tran Phu Printing House Base, the shrine for the 7 martyrs of the Long An Performing Arts Troupe and the "R" School of Arts, the memorial plaque for the Liberation Film Studio Base, etc., in Lo Go - Xa Mat National Park, affirms the silent but equally important contributions of the propaganda workers during the resistance war.

Located within Lo Go - Xa Mat National Park, the cluster of memorials and the historical site of the Central Committee Headquarters of the Southern Region, combined with the park's unique forest ecosystem, create a distinct appeal for ecotourism and historical exploration. Trips to connect with nature and learn more about history not only offer enjoyable experiences for visitors but also effectively contribute to traditional education and foster patriotism.
